EE's ability to act as a notary has been temporarily suspended--that in my book is an admonishment. However, there is a HUGE possibility that EE was set-up. In her effort to help a senior citizen who was unable to come out, EE notarized a document. This goes to the core of who EE is--she has always seen herself as part of a solution not part of the problem. After the many years she has served she knows many many of the residents. It was unfortunate that this family chose to set her up in such a fashion. Did she do wrong--YES. Should her notary ability be suspended--maybe for a while--but nothing more. This is a none issue. It wasn't the Brinks Robbery. The only people who are acting nuts on this are the Reps and self-righteous Conservatives. All at the ready to cast a stone at anyone in the Democratic party.
Also being a notary is NO HONOR as stated by Tippy. I, too, studied to take the test and in the end just didn't bother. I have three senior citizens in Albany who have all gotten there notary license in the past five years. One of them helps out when needed and charges a dollar.
I think this is a touchy situation, EE certainly reached a point in her career where it was time to step down. I have known EE for many years as well and have absolutely no ax to grind with her. It is almost like taking your elderly parents drivers license away from them. It is a difficult thing to do, but when they start going through stop signs & red lights it is a matter of doing it for their good as well as everyone elses. EE was beginning to forget whom she married - hours after she officiated the ceremony, notarizing documents of dead people and even losing documents that people submitted as required by Ethics laws. That is not meant to be an insult, rather a few examples of the things that were happening that could ultimately put the town at risk for investigations and Audits. I look as EE as an elderly woman who performed her duites to the very best of her ability until the day she stepped down, NOT as a dem or rep or any other party member. She is a human being, like all of us & I just pray to God that am able to carry out the duties of my job as long as she did.
Very well said cookie. We as a society have to start making decisions on 'law' and what is right and legal and what is wrong and illegal. A society that continues to makes it's judicial/government decisions based on 'feelings' or 'who you know' will doom itself into non-existence.

I totally agree cookie, and think she may need the voters to make that decision for her...if she won't. But I believe she will step down.
I agree Cookie. Couldn't have said it better myself. EE has certainly served this town for a very long time and deserves all the respect she gets, including having a park named after her.
But, I have a question for you Boomer: How could EE have been "set up"? I don't get it. I have my notary license. If someone wants me notarize something, I know that I have to have that person in front of me, I check their license to ensure their identity, and I administer the oath. I could NEVER notarize a dead person's signature, because it'd be pretty freaking hard for me have that person in front of me. Why did EE not turn the person away when they asked her to notarize the signature of someone that wasn't there? I don't get the set up. The problem wasn't that EE notarized a dead person. The problem was that EE notarized a signature in the absence of the individual. How does that get set up?
That's the dems response to her questionable activities as town clerk. Let's face it she still does business as they did back in the day when the dem machine ran the town but that no longer exists. Saying that she was set up is just ridiculous. Set up by who? ST, GP? Give me a break. She broke the law and was caught. Bottom line is this is 2010 and our elected officials must be held to a high standard it's our tax money that feed them.

Now she is sitting home (apparently sick, cough, cough, choke, choke) raking in a paycheck with rumors swirling that she is sitting it out just long enough to put someone in so they can't get on the November ballot.
I CALL THAT SELFISH!
The town board say "they care" about her, they used her for her votes and to ride into town hall on their fake horses, but have spread around real horse$hit!
Buck up EE, appoint Lynn F. She ran fair and square and never had a bad word to say about you even though all your buddies say she did.

I call it Rotterdam politics! It never changes!

It's more than our tax dollars that feed ANY government official. It's greed, political and personal motivations that appear to be the main motivator. Our tax dollars, and the promise of not spending it, is what they campaign on but never stick to. IMHO

That is politics in a nutshell. Providing the services people want without taxing them for the services they want.
At least Boomer can see the forest for the trees!! I appreciate that! FJ too --- "EE has certainly served this town for a very long time and deserves all the respect she gets, including having a park named after her."
The notary issue was a bit more ambiguous ... the wife came in with the husband's signature (which she had power of attorney) for the STAR program (senior discount, for which the wife alone was entitled ... as EE reasoned). The wife signed in front of her. EE's "crime": thinking with her heart. Period. Not realizing the man was dead [nullifying the POA], was surely an error --- but without criminal intent.
MM -- you are a doctor now? HIPPA prevents me from proving you wrong, however Eunice's HISTORY of 40 years working for the town is proof enough that she has never even used her sick benefits, nevermind abused them! Selfish? Not Eunice!! Not now, not ever. Your green-with-envy is evident!
Why haven't we heard of charges being brought against this resident who falsified information given to the town clerk as a POA? When my mother's neighbor's husband died, she had to bring his death certificate so his name was taken off the deed. Is this a practice that is not being followed? Are there others out there where deaths are not recorded?

They're in a pile over there on the right ... or is it left.
