They won't be appointing a Deputy Clerk at Wednesday's meeting.

Am I missing something here? Isn't there already a deputy clerk?

Yes, and that particular deputy town clerk appears to be going on a honeymoon in October.
Here's a thought, force Eunice back to work or stop paying her a salary to sit her @ss at home.

I don't think they know how to do that - it doesn't involve a rubber stamp

and yes we do have a(one) really expensive deputy clerk

but without a clerk and the deputy on leave for wedded bliss we need another!

Eunice always wanted 2 full timers in the office to help her

-as there is soooooo much to do - just ask for a copy of the minutes of the last town board meeting

I've gotta an idea!

If someone can get Larned to submit a proposal disguised as a change of zoning request, that sets a time table for EE's return, and if it's not met, the Town can fill the position and freeze EE's salary until her return.  FDG and gang might just pull out the rubber APPROVED stamp and approve the proposal out of habit and natural reflex.  It's a long shot, but it may be the only way.

Didn't FDG say he was going to run TH like a business?  In terms FDG can understand - the Town Clerks office is the equivalent of hiring 3 back hoe operators to operate 1 back hoe.

Actually, we would need a 2nd Deputy Clerk to fill in a per diem basis only -- even if Eunice were not on sick leave.  Read the statute regarding Town Clerks in NYS Municipal Law.  It clearly says that the the Town Clerk may appoint a First Deputy Clerk and that the Supervisor/Town Board may appoint a 2nd Deputy Clerk.   The legislature was clearly foreseeing the possibility that both the Town Clerk and First Deputy Clerk could be absent and for the office of Town Clerk to continue to function a 2nd Deputy would be "on call".   In practice, it would be possible for the 2nd Deputy Clerk to be someone already working in Town Hall in another office .. he/she would just "slide over" to cover the Town Clerk's office for the day.

so in rotterdam's pathetic history, have the taxpayers ALWAYS paid for a town clerk AND 2 deputy clerks?

It still amazes me that rotterdam residents will be forced to pay for extra deputy clerks (legal or not) all due to the fact that their townclerk committed admitted forgery by signing for a dead person allowing for an illegal tax break. And to avoid placing the responsibility where it belongs, the word 'legal' is being used to soften the blow to the residents who will have to dole out even more money. It just doesn't make any sense. But then again........this is rotterdam.
