Proctors benefit for Thacher Park today SCHENECTADY — Local social networking site 518Fever.com has organized a free event at Proctors from 5 to 10 this evening that will raise money for Thacher Park. All donations will be received by Friends of Thacher, whose Website is http://www.friendsofthacherpark.org. Fly 92.3 FM, De Palma’s Embroidery, and Gauchos Grill & Catering are the official sponsors of the event, which is themed “United 4 Thacher, A Celebration of Thacher Park.” Other event partners include Schenectady Art Night, which is suppling artists along with Albany Poets.com, which will have six artists perform at Robb Alley beginning at 8 p.m. Broadway Choppers is bringing in motorcycles for a bike show during the event. The event will also feature family entertainment including The Puppet People, Ladybug the Clown, face painting, balloon making, storytelling and performances from the Merritt Dance Center dance team. “We wanted to do something to help Thacher Park,” said Anthony DiMoro, 518Fever.com president and CEO. “Everyone in the area seems to have some sort of connection to the park. There was so much passion in the local reaction to the governor’s budget proposal regarding the closing of the parks. This is a big fight and we wanted to help spearhead something positive that would not only benefi t the parks but bring the community together.”
