Well perhaps 'some substantial' regulation will come out of all this. Perfect or imperfect.....AZ got the ball rolling. Our past administrations have failed on immigration. Let's see how obama handles this one. And I certainly hope the end result isn't .... 'just give them all immunity'! Cause I'm sure as hell tired of the word 'tolerance'!

Immigration reform a 'no-win' issue
By: Jonathan Martin
April 26, 2010 04:54 AM EDT

The Arizona Legislature’s passage of a new hard-line anti-immigration law may force both Democrats and Republicans into a place they don’t want to be: dealing with the contentious, no-win issue of immigration reform in the midst of an election year.

The Arizona bill — passed on a party-line vote by the state’s Republican legislators and signed into law by the Republican governor — has come under intense fire from President Barack Obama and other Democrats in Washington.

But the polarizing issue is fraught with peril for both parties — so much so that, when asked about the politics of it all, former Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie paraphrases the words of Democratic New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson: “When immigration is an issue, nobody wins.”

Immigration reform advocates say that, without a comprehensive bill from Congress, other states will feel free to follow Arizona’s lead in passing what they consider to be discriminatory, “racial profiling” legislation.

But for Democrats to pass immigration reform before November, party leaders would have to force members from conservative-leaning districts to cast yet another tough vote that could raise the ire of swing voters. But Republicans face longer-term peril — if they continue to push aggressive legislation cracking down on illegal immigrants, Hispanic voters are likely to continue their exodus to the Democratic Party.

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham — one of the few Republicans willing to remain supportive of legislation that includes a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants — said his colleagues have cooled on the issue as they’ve come to understand the political costs.

“More and more Republicans are coming to grips with the idea that if we don’t solve this problem, we can never be a national player,” Graham said in an interview.

But he was quick to warn that Democrats would do nothing but incite conservative passions if they try to pass an immigration reform bill this year with little bipartisan support.

“If they try to jam a bill through this year because they’re getting pressure from the Hispanic community, I tell you what: They could blow the last chance we’ll have,” he said.

Further, other Republicans said, bringing up an immigration reform bill with uncertain prospects for passage would appear tone-deaf. ...........>>>>.............>>>>.............http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0410/36325.htm

While again I disagree with how you put it, I agree on this issue with you. It is hard however being a nation of immigrants to close out those now moving in.  But something has to be done as the current immigrants (illegal ones) are becoming more of a burden to the nation then we can afford.

It shouldn't matter if you are white, brown, green or purple if you are doing something that the police officer deems suspicious he has the right to ask you for your proof of ID that will show whether or not you're a citizen. If only the brown race are challenged then there might be a problem with how the law is being administered.

The problem is that ID and proof of citizenship are two different things.  Immigrants can get an ID in the US.  Hell one Canadian friend was even registered to vote in the US (great job Illinois DMV).

Has the world ended because the illegals will be caught now? Has our world just fallen apart yet? let me know when that happens!

No, not until our federal government stops the bul!sh!t and starts working to fix the problem of border security, and they won't, as evidenced by the treasonous ways of this administration. They fail to keep our borders secure, they fail to keep us safe, then piss and moan about a state who is actually getting fed up with murder, kidnap, drug running and millions of other crimes committed by illegal aliens primarily from Mexico.

we are in this situation today because a whole generation failed to see the future of what happens when immigration laws aren't followed
and really didn't give a rat's a$$ because they had close relatives(some criminals too) that were immigrants themselves and thought everyone looked/acted like them all over the US and assumed the world was made for them and their comfort and failed to institute/uphold/enforce those laws.....why?....they were comfortable buring flags/smoking pot/not shaving/getting some kind of freedom from
establishment, knowing full well they would spring right back into the bed they tried to burn.....

and administration is only functions as the generation elected to it........so it really doesn't matter about political parties....

This administration?  Haha 8 years of Bush and what got done?

I look forward to this law getting smacked down hard and then actual immigration reform coming later this year.  Let Obama un-screw the financial crisis before he fixes yet another Bush deficiency (though not solely his).

Whoa there biscuit! This has been a problem for decades. As far back as Eisenhower. Although, at least Eisenhower implemented 'Operation Wetback'. Something that should be revisited today!

Hence the (not solely his) part of the comment.  Reading comprehension is your friend, know it well.

With all the hand-wringing in the news the past couple of days over Arizona making it illegal to be in America illegally (wait…what? Redundant redundancy!), and requiring folks once arrested to prove legality with an ID, I’ll bet you’ll think these quotes came from an Arizona legislator about that law:

“It’s the nub of solving the immigration dilemma politically speaking.”

“If you say they can’t get a job when they come here, you’ll stop it.”

Holy Minuteman, Batman! Those quotes given to the Wall Street Journal are from uber-liberal Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.)! But he wasn’t talking about Arizona’s law. He was talking about his own proposed law.

Coinciding with Arizona’s effort to make people who are legally in America prove it with an ID, Schumer and Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.) have been working on a federal law to make people carry a national ID to prove they are legally in America.

Schumer’s card won’t just be a piece of paper with your name on it. He’ll have you report a variety of personal information to the government to get your card, and it will be biometrically signed with your fingerprints or vein patterns from your hand. Vein patterns? Must be for skinny people.

Arizona is prompted to do it.....and anyother politician that remains silent or states that something must be done....is accepting of the national ID and the
connection to national healthcare/insurance,,,,,

ATTENTION CITIZEN: "SHOW ME YOUR PAPERS!"

We cant honestly sit here and have a conversation thinking that this wasn't allowed.....the silence is a deafening agreement from other politicians.....

again: Attention citizens: "have your papers ready."

instead of truck weight stops they will be ID stops......
