SCHENECTADY Broadway musical at Proctors a big draw BY STEVEN COOK Gazette Reporter
Proctors and downtown Schenectady are readying for the next big show, “South Pacific,” to hit the stage tonight and run through Sunday. It’s a drill they’ve been through multiple times since the theater’s expansion. “We’ve gotten pretty good at it,” Proctors CEO Philip Morris said Tuesday, a day before the show’s opening. “When we first expanded, a lot of this was new … but now we know how to do it.” Ticket sales for the weeklong run have been excellent, Morris said, but tickets are still available. The hardest shows to get into are Friday and Saturday night. The show opens tonight at 8 p.m. with nightly shows through Sunday. There are also 2 p.m. shows Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Downtown Schenectady’s Twitter feed urged residents to plan ahead Thursday during the day. Downtown will be busy from noon until 2 p.m. for those going to the matinee and from 4 to 5 as theatergoers leave. The other shows are expected to have similar crowds. The theater is busy readying its various programs, including its downtown ambassadors, Morris said. The ambassadors come from the ranks of several local social service networks. ...........>>>>............>>>>...........http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01404&AppName=1
