SUPERMARKET SHOULD HIRE SECURITY GUARDS AT NIGHT
I am a 60-year-old woman who was recently mugged and robbed in the Rotterdam Altamont Avenue Price Chopper parking lot [March 20 Gazette]. Although it was 10:30 p.m., I was parked directly in front of the store, under lights. My purse was taken out of my car right in front of me and I struggled several minutes while screaming, but failed to get help or permanently retrieve my purse. I have lived in this area all my life and was foolishly under the impression that the area was still reasonably safe. I have nothing but praise for the Rotterdam, Schenectady and Glenville police, and the quick results. However, I am very disappointed in Price Chopper. After my husband approached the manager of the Altamont Avenue store, I received several phone calls from Price Chopper personnel expressing their sorrow. But you can imagine my disappointment when my husband spoke to the store managers and reminded them that several people shop alone at night and suggested they have security guards watch the store and parking lot and was told they did not have the manpower, that it would not stop them anyway. It is obvious to me that Price Chopper is more concerned about making money than the safety of its customers. The public has a right to know this for their own safety. MARJORIE BYRNES Rotterdam

Perhaps all of the security personnel have been reassigned to the corporate headquarters?
Workers at the new office complex are very concerned about security at their new location. They said they like the new building, but most share concerns of safety. They were told it would be gated with a guard. Many are still very concerned.

I work there and no one is concerned about safety. Where the hell do you get that information? And to the orginal poster, contact corporate customer service if you want results from security. They will listen to customers more then they will store managers.

I assure you.....that there are people who have requested to stay at the rotterdam location, because of safety issues. Some of those requests were granted. The entire office complex is fenced in and guarded at the gate. Clearly not what anyone experienced at their rotterdam location. And I'm sure somebody knows somebody who works at the office complex. But the people I know, and I won't go into detail who these people are, think the building is state of the art, but safety is a major concern.
I'm sure that as metroplex continues to clean up the area and the city succeeds at decreasing crime(4 homicides in 4 months) and the homeless all find homes and the jobless all find jobs and the dss line gets so small that they won't need a hot dog vendor and the prostitutes and drug dealers rehabilitate,.......in time they will feel safer!

The new building is actually much safer then the old. And at every meeting people complained about the security, that it was too much for a grocery store (I'm not one of those people but I'm not scared either).
Sorry the 'I know somebody' arguement doesn't mean anything to me. And to that point, why did you bring it up in this post? She was mugged in Rotterdam, not in Schenectady, where the new office is located. And no, no one is left behind that isn't a warehouse worker. Anyone still working there is part of a staged move which is still ongoing.

Not true....really!!

I'll surely go on your word, because you know someone that works there and said "...really!!" Had you used a mere one ! then you couldn't be trusted, but because you used two concurrently you must have your facts straight.
A lot gets lost in translation on the internet. Using punctuations, italics, bold and caps are about all we have to work with. I guess it's the new 'non-verbal' English language.
