The city is the worst it has ever been, and no sign of improvement. You can plant fiction articles in the paper, I live here, I see the reality every day. What kind of civic leaders take your tax dollars away from you, and then refuse to keep the roads you pay for drivable, write off entire neighborhoods, spend your tax money on a few connected people's businesses, hinder or drive away other business people (Pizza King, etc.) and the lie, just lie, about the way things are? It isn't negative to expect tax dollars to be used as they are intended, for the benefit of the residents, expect laws to be followed by elected officials, expect people you pay to behave in an ethical fashion and DO THEIR JOBS. We elect officials to run the city, take care of the residents, not to become "planners" because if they find it more glamorous to be some kind of urban planner or social engineer, fine, go to school for that so at least you know what you are doing and then go be a "planner" somewhere where they want you, not here.
The signers of the Declaration of Independence would be considered "negative" by some today, for their high standards and their questioning of those in"authority".

WOW! What a great review of the DEM City implosion. Who would lie, rip off the taxpayers, plant fake stories in the paper? The working together DEM idiots. Mexican Radio fell through. Wolf's 1-11 fell through. The creperie locked it's door. ON THE SAME DAY. The can't pave streets, they can't pay the school taxes, they can't maintain the parks.

In any other City, resignations would be raining down, from the planning office, from the City Council, from code enforcement, from County planning. Never here. These non-planners with zero planning expertise {all failed DEM politicians} hang on for dear life. Then they demand raises and start other nonprofits to further screw the taxpayers. Nothing will improve until the entire City Council and Acting McCarthy are chased out.

Once again, when DV has NOTHING to substantiate his comments, he does this "yawn" thing.

So tell us, DV, why don't you EVER provide any proof to what you say??????    Huh??????     Obviously because you are lying.

I think it's an act of desparation, probably the taxpayers money has been used to bribe the Gazette to writing the story.

That is an accusation that borders on slander. What kind of idiot are you to make such a comment on an open forum. Are you really that clueless and dumb! I hope one of the mods sees it and deletes it.

I agree with you, Joe. Usually the comments are just puerile, but this is plain offensive. If I thought for one minute these forum users were racists I would not use this site. This person needs a lesson in civility.

Mexican Radio back on the dial?
Schenectady urban renewal meeting offers hints that a restaurant is near for the site

By Lauren Stanforth

SCHENECTADY — Could the well-known Hudson restaurant Mexican Radio be coming to downtown after all?

A year and a half ago, owners Lori Selden and Mark Young had designs on the OTB building at 325 State St. Last summer they said the Schenectady franchise at that location was off the table, because lease negotiations fell through with the building's future owner, J.T. Pollard of Re4orm Architecture. Mexican Radio also has a location in Manhattan.

Pollard will soon buy the building, which sits near the Amtrak railroad station, and he will turn it into a restaurant, said City Zoning Officer Steve Strichman at a Schenectady Urban Renewal Agency meeting on Monday.

The renewal agency, which is made up of Schenectady City Council and Mayor Gary McCarthy, had to review the project because the city owns a grassy swath of land between the OTB and the train track that will be sold to Pollard for $900. Mexican Radio had wanted to turn the area into its patio.

Of course!   That's how "the renaissance" operates.

The building will be renovated with taxpayer money, i.e.OUR money (not DV's money, OUR money).   WE want renovate our homes, WE NEED to reair our roof, we NEED to replace the septic system, we ought to buy a new furnace, we NEED to have the duct work cleaned regularly.   All these things cost US money out of OUR pockets.   No one is giving us handouts.   These businesses downtown, they are wealthy people and they have the money to fund the renos COMPLETELY OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKETS.

If WE don't have the cash in the bank to completely fund the work that we want/need on our own houses, then we have to apply for a loan.   These businesses downtown, they should apply for loans too.   And I DO NOT MEAN getting a loan subsidized by the taxpayers.   They should go to a normal bank and obtain a normal loan BASED ON THEIR OWN CREDITWORTHINESS which is EXACTLY WHAT WE TAXPAYERS HAVE TO DO!!!

If we taxpayers can't get approved for a loan, we go without.   If the businesses downtown can't get a conventional loan from a bank (i.e., WITHOUT government intervention or involvement) then TOUGH SH!T    !!!!!!!!!!!

However, the downtown millionaires and politically connected keep getting bailouts and handouts from the taxpayers over and over and over and over again.   Taxpayers are the money tree for downtown.

Another point, the homeowners IN the city are being cited for violations and the government is ordering them to make repairs.   But the homeowners don't have the money for repairs, but the government doesn't care, if they don't fix up, the government will tack on financial penalties.  But the government does NOT do ANYTHING to help them fund the dictate from the government to put on a new porch, paint their house, replace the sidient, etc, etc.

When the city orders city homeowners to do this and that fix-up work on their homes, the city says "you figure out how pay for it, you don't it, we financially penalize you."    But to the millionaires downtown and the dem politically connected are told by the city "come, we will pay everything for you, we have the great almighty money tree in the city, an unending supply of money."

And the worst thing is that after taxpayer money is used to renovate the OTB building for the restaurant, then the assessed value of the building will increase, as it is about $1.4 million now, let's suppose the assessed value increases to $2.0 million.   But because of the FACT that they will NOT pay property taxes, the financially struggling homeowners will have even more of a tax BILL increase because they will, after renovation, have to cover the cost of the extra taxes on the increased value.   Do you follow that?   (DV aka Glry, don't even try to provide a response because as you are NOT a taxpayer you would have absolutely no clue what you're talking about do forget about posting a response with your STUPID cliche of "renaissance is rolling along."

Now, yet another bit of information that WE who have intelligence will know.   Homeowners can apply for home equity loans.   As the dem team keeps giving out all this money to the rich and politically connected, the property values decrease.   When property values decrease, equity decreases.   When equity decreases, you can't get as much of a home equity loan.   So that is yet another strike AGAINST the financially struggling homeowners imposed BY THE CURRENT DEM LEADERS OF THE CITY, COUNTY, AND THE GILLEN TEAM AT METROPLEX

A year later and NOTHING changed except the DEM morons have racked up another $7 MILLION City debt. A grassy spot by the train station? ROTFLMAO! Before or after Festa di San Giovanni? The only hope for the oppressed City property owners is a State Control Board takeover from McCheese and his DEM idiots.

retail wont work(the plex wont pay walmart - it competes with price chopper) - but resturants do - and they extract sales tax from the people - for the metroplex - the plex loves to feed on sales tax revenue

And yet ANOTHER one.   Just one more restaurant to divy up a smaller piece of the small pie.   The profit margin in the rest. biz is in the 10% neighborhood.   Now for example if you have $1000 in the available potential profit pool up for grabs divided 12 ways ($83.33) if was all earned equally.   Then you increase that to 13 restaraunts obviously your available cut will be smaller($76.92).   Years ago older Saratoga downtown rest. lamented on this very fact, more rest. dividing up the available pie meant less profits the more rests. that opened up.   And with less profits comes less $ to hire.   Layoffs then ensue.   Any guess on an over/under of the # of downtown rests. that will eventually be in downtown Sch'dy by the time it's all over?
