Storefronts: Mexican Radio deal falls through July 1, 2011 at 11:52 am by Chris Churchill, staff writer The Business Review reports that a deal to bring Mexican Radio, the popular restaurant with locations in Manhattan and Hudson, to a downtown Schenectady building has fallen through.
The restaurant had been planning on occupying space at 325 State Street (map), a building owned by J.T. Pollard of Reform Architecture. But its owners told the newspaper they are now searching for other space in downtown Schenectady and expect the process to take at least a year.
Incidentally, Wolf’s 111, the restaurant on Wolf Road in Colonie, was also set to occupy space at 325 State. But its owner recently told Steve Barnes it would open a second location in downtown Albany, at the Times Union Center.
OK, so they ALLEGEDLY still want to come to Schenectady. Did you see the Gazette story? It basically said, "SHOW ME DA (TAXPAYERS') M A H N E Y"

AT LEAST A YEAR? There are vaccant builidngs all over schenectady.......just take your pick!! What this really means is that they are waiting for the 'tax deal of the century' from the plex FIRST!!!
I'm not opposed to this Mexican Restaurant moving to schenectady....what I am opposed to is doing it with taxpayer's money that the taxpayers already don't have. Asking the taxpayers to shoulder another tax burden for 20 maybe 30 low wage jobs is absurd and irresponsible. imho

“We’ve spent the last year researching and visiting Schenectady and we just like the vibe there,” she said. “It’s got a great industrial chic thing going on. The buildings are beautiful and obviously Proctors is very important. People who love Schenectady have made us fall in love with Schenectady.”
The "industrial chic thing" isn't doing it for them anymore.
Send Word Now will lease almost 6,000 square feet of space on the third floor with an option to lease the second floor, as well as an option to purchase the entire building. The building is currently tax-exempt under Capital OTB ownership. Send Word Now has agreed to enter into a voluntary payment in lieu of tax (PILOT) agreement to the City of Schenectady. If the company purchases the building, a PILOT will be established so that the property goes back on the tax rolls. Send Word Now will start recruiting staff by the end of summer.
The company also has an agreement with Metroplex to lease up to 100 spaces in the Broadway Parking Garage.

It takes a year to find something vacant Downtown? Try the restaurant for sale for years on Jay St right across from City Hall. Wolf's 1-11 pulled out of the same location at 325 State St. They are opening a second restaurant in Downtown Albany not Schenectady.
The wheels have fallen off Metrograft. Death Ray was crowing about Mexican Radio for over a year. Another whiff from the Metrograft bozos. Show them the money! Oops, we ain't got no money cause no one repays us.
How ironic that the architect on many of the Metroplex projects is now "purchasing" this building. Gillen "refused to discuss any sale the property" because Schenectady taxpayers would probably ask him to resign! Another downtown property given away to a connected Plex friend, most likely tax exempt for 25 years and another tax burden for the middle class taxpayers and homeowners of Schenectady.
Gillen should come clean and tell the taxpayers how much he "sold" this buidling for and how much tax they'll pay.
Another great improvement project for Downtown Schenectady --Great work by Ray Gillen, the Democratic County Legislature, and Metroplex as they continue to work together to make Schenectady County a great place to live, to work, and to do business.
Another DVR classic! Yeah great "work" DEM morons. Please follow Cousin Vinny and SS Savage out stage left before we all go bankrupt. In one day 3 business go poof. Where's Death Ray latest excuse? Get him on his yacht for answers. Lacks the decency to resign in disgrace.
You forgot prayer in your things to do list. Schenectady County taxpayers need all the prayers they can get with these DEMS imploding everything can get their mitts on.
The Regressives are jealous that during the years that the GOP controlled the County Legislature and the Mayor's Office in Schenectady ... downtown Schenectady sank to its lowest levels --- and NOW .. with a Democratic controlled County Legislature and a Democratic Mayor and Council in the City --- HUGE progress is being made.
It kills the Regressives to see progress being made under Democrats. The Regressives want to go back to the "good old days" when the GOP was picking clean the dead carcass of downtown Schenectady.
Now I'm wondering. Might it have been tax exempt (the OTB) because is OTB some kind of public benefit corporation, or similar? Need to find that out.
To those wondering, well, for one thing, there will be nothing secret about the sale. by law it's public record, so look for the info on the county website soon.

What huge progress? Explain how it is "progress" when the homeowners have been slapped with almost the HIGHEEST TAXES IN THE WHOLE U.S. because they are FORCED to pay for the taxes of the millionaires and billionaires. HOW is that "progress" DV????
Is it progress when people are putting their homes up for sale in order to flee the city----from the day time shootings of children, from the damage to their houses from the poor roads and failing watermains and sewers
Is it progress when when virtually no one want to buy a house in the city?
Explain that DV, can you? You keep making statements but you NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER provide any proof to support your statements. So provide the proof of the progress.

Wow, DV posted this back in October. And I replied asking him to explain his comment. I asked him to explain HOW it is a good place to live....with daytime shootings of little children innocently playing on playgrounds, with schools being on lockdown because of people on the lose with guns near schools. I asked hm to explain how good it is for finanially struggling homeowners to be forced to pay the taxes for the well-heeled downtown businesses.
And other questions. And here we are some 10 months later and he STILL has NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER provided even one teeny weeny shred of proof to support his statemnents, to illustrate what has improved for THE PEOPLE, for THE NEIGHBORHOODS.
Tell us DV , tell us which of these downtown business owners live in this city. Which ones DV?????? If it's oh so good as you claim, then tell us which buinessowners live in the city......be sure to provide the proof via property records on the county website. Oh, you probabably don't know how to use that site.
Bet we will still be waiting in another 10 months from now for him to explain his comments. He will still never provide any proof.

Progress? LOL! Anymore DEM moron "progress" and tumbleweed will be rolling down State. Right it already is.
That's why the City DEMS have to go to the State Legislature to amend the law so they can screw the kids out of $3 MILLION. Of course, the oppressed City property owners will have to make it up. But who cares! As predicted, the entire corrupt DEM facade is collapsing. No jobs, businesses going out by the dozen, decreases in revenue and now promised deals ripped up. OTB is a public corporation which is tax exempt. A private owner should not have kept that tax exemption. Unless, of course, a member of the DEM friends and family club. Then anything goes, no one investigates, no one demands the FBI and nobody knows from nuthin.
(yawn) answer this .. why the hell should I care what a peckerhead like MC thinks ??
And - back to the topic - Mexican Radio is a so-so place .. no big loss if it doesn't come to the city. There are new ventures coming in the near future -- much more significant than an over priced taco stand.
