French president, visiting NYC, critical of U.S. health care debate
BY VERENA DOBNIK AND ANGELA CHARLTON
The Associated Press

NEW YORK — With a lectern flown in from France and his fi ngers firmly entwined with those of his smiling wife, French President Nicolas Sarkozy made a splash Monday even before he opened his mouth for a no-holds-barred speech at Columbia University.
Amid blogger reports of strains in their marriage, Sarkozy and exsupermodel Carla Bruni-Sarkozy made every effort to appear the happy couple, walking closely together and clasping hands as they mounted a staircase into an auditorium packed with students, faculty and other spectators.
The French first lady, elegant in a swept-up chignon and form-fitting black top with gray skirt, at times threatened to upstage her husband, who scolded his American hosts about health care and for not paying enough attention to the rest of the world.
French Web sites immediately picked up on the message. “Carla Bruni et Nicolas Sarkozy amoureux a New York” read a headline on the online site of entertainment magazine Voici, which mentioned the “electric atmosphere” of the Big Apple and its effects on the French presidential couple.
Sarkozy is in hot water at home. His poll ratings are at record lows of around 30 percent and there are widening cracks in his conservative party. In New York, though, he basked in the rapt attention of hundreds of Columbia students and even jettisoned a prepared speech.
“Speeches kill off creativity,” he said. “I’m going to speak from the heart.”
    And he did.
“Welcome to the club of states who don’t turn their back on the sick and the poor,” Sarkozy said, referring to the U.S. health care overhaul signed by President Barack Obama last week.
From the European perspective, he said, “when we look at the American debate on reforming health care, it’s difficult to believe.”
“The very fact that there should have been such a violent debate simply on the fact that the poorest of Americans should not be left out in the streets without a cent to look after them ... is something astonishing to us.”
Then to hearty applause, he added: “If you come to France and something happens to you, you won’t be asked for your credit card before you’re rushed to the hospital.”...................>>>>....................>>>>...............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01300&AppName=1

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

No only that but the French have canned their Cap and Tax! While the French Prime Minister moves towards reality and the right-our dear leader goes further off the deep end.

Talking with some Canadians they think we have completely lost it. They know how horrible government controlled medical care really is.

We're about to find out how bad government controlled health-care really is and if cap and trade is passed as well I fear that we're heading for economic disaster the likes of which hasn't been seen since the great depression.

I have a free mind/will to do it......SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE......this is America.......

I've never spoken to one Canadian that disliked their healthcare.  Their only complaint was that American stole their top doctors with the super high pay.  Oddly enough, your increased co-pays and insurance costs are whats paying them.

My wife's cousin and his family lived in canada for 4 years. He said it is the worst. He confirmed the stories of waiting 9 months for MRI's, catscans, some surgeries  and other 'american next day tests'. Sure there are clinics on just about every street corner. They are great for colds and sprains. Anything other than that.....you wait....and wait.....and wait!!! AND THAT IS THE TRUTH!

They still keep in contact with friends they made while they lived there....and they think obama's healthcare is NUTS!!!

Do they live in the woods are something?  I've got friends in Calgary. Saskatchewan, and Montreal and they all love what they have compared to our current system.

You see America is driven by invention/research and being first.....so our society has demand/expected that the newest and best always be offered....for longevity comfort looks etc.....what ever....
anyone ever hear of DARPA and a few others that are driven by the government for research and 'first' use.....that is what makes Americans Pioneering....we like to move forward.....

I dont know enough about Canadian research or European medical research...but that is how we drive our system....and the fact remains that society expects the next new thing to be available to them right now and that is what we call healthcare....

be careful of what the government will mandate under their new system....as being new

there IS such thing as survival of the fittest......we try to say there isn't but that is not true......
