Sitting At My Desk
March 6, 2010 at 10:25 pm by Philip Morris

Well, its not a desk, really.  Its an old and kind of wobbly wooden drafting table.  It used to be my wife’s when she started her graphic design business.  It was in the days of a waxer plugged in 24/7 and galleys of printed copy that came from a typesetter and was laid down and cut to fit carefully around blank spaces meant for graphics and photos and art.

Yes, well before the computer changed that business as well as most others.

So, its about 10:00 Saturday night.  There are two shows happening, Bill Cosby in the Mainstage and Richie Havens in the GE Theater.  Now that we are the cablecaster of public access television in the community (Open Stage Media, channel 16, which was named previously SACC-TV), that, too, is coming from Proctors.

At my desk is a small flat screen television.  I use it to watch and monitor channel 16.  I can also monitor both theaters on other channels.  That means I use the remote to see and hear Bill Cosby and the concert by Richie Havens.  I flip to see whats on Open Stage Media.  Soon, as we add and education and a government channel, those, too, will be available at my desk.

Its sort of amazing to me.  I can research a potential trip to New Orleans, while keeping up with the live and the broadcast activities coming out of Proctors.  At my wooden drafting table full of the small cuts from the tip of the knife used thousands of times on those galleys of type.

All in one middle aged lifetime.

We all knew this was coming!
I'm sure it will be un-biased!

Instead of jobs and reindustrialization-you wanted the "arts". You got the "arts"-and no jobs.

Did you hear Morris is taking over Key Bank and making a catering hall? Hope he knows more about catering than economic development.

It will be interesting to see exactly what this 'government channel' will consist of. As long as it doesn't follow the same format at our local or cable news stations.

However, I will not be surprised, in fact I am expecting, to see our local liberal socialists taking the opportunity to use this as their soap box for spreading their rhetoric.

I hope they prove me wrong.

It will be the same blarney as now. The horrible City Council, County and town bored. Add a liberal sprinkling of national NPR style programs. Totally unwatchable except for local comedies.
