I think if anything, it will be the other way around. You're right about the insatiable Democrat appetite for power, but they are far from complacent...complacency is not what got them control of the minor parties...and what appears to be a gradual, methodical infiltration of the Republican Party will proceed with a vengeance if the Republican Party does not find a way to unite and protect the Party from such an invasion. Just look at what's happened with some of the top Republican vote-getters...they have either switched to Democrat or switched to Conservative to run as Democrats. If something doesn't give, we will soon see what will be truly a one party system,. simultaneously operating under the names of their wholly owned political subsidiaries...other wise known as the Democrat, Conservative and Independence Parties. The Republican Party, IMO, needs to find a way to avoid being sucked up into that vaccuum.
Point taken. However, the dem party IS complacent. Why? The infiltration of the rep/cons should be a warning signal to them. If this continues, the dem party will lose ALL of it's identity. The new generation of dems (the young republicans) will be nothing more than political whores and will change the landscape of the local democratic party for years to come.
As far as the reps being sucked up into that vacuum.......it's already happened. AS and GP are an apparent outward sign ofjust that. AS(r,d) swears GP(r) in and flips to dem a day later. GP(r) to primary a popular sitting assemblyman GA (r). GP(r) cuts a deal with PT(d) for REMS.
And it is quite apparent that GP(r) is trying to split/destroy what is left of the local rep party. And yet, idiotically, the rep party endorses FS(r), GP's lapdog for town board! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out!!!
It's just a matter of time. Pass the popcorn please!

ROTTERDAM -- A Schenectady County legislator who recently switched from the Republican to the Democratic party announced today he will run against George Amedore in the race for the 105th Assembly seat.
Angelo Santabarbara, 37, who has been in the legislature for three years, said he was approached by state and Schenectady County Democratic leaders about running for the seat. The professional engineer made news in January when he announced his switch to the Democratic party, leaving only two Republicans on the 15-member Schenectady County legislature. Like Amedore, Santabarbara is from Rotterdam and runs a business -- in his case, a cheese company that donates all its profits to children's charities. A married father of two, his main job is as an engineer at Chazen Companies in Troy.
"I want to put myself in the best position to help the most people that I can," Santabarbara said about running in the Assembly district, which covers part of Schenectady County and all of Montgomery County.
Two years ago, Schenectady City Councilman Democrat Mark Blanchfield took a crack at unseating Amedore, 41, best known for his home building company's work on the ABC hit "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," and his close ties to former Assembly Minority Leader Jim Tedisco. Blanchfield, who ran attack ads against Amedore, garnered about 16,600 votes to Amedore's 27,300 votes. Blanchfield was recently appointed to a City Court judgeship.
Santabarbara said he's not going to mention Amedore in his campaigning because he's not sure who he'll be running against.
Former Rotterdam GOP chairman Gerard Parisi, 39, announced recently he will attempt to primary Amedore. The Republican challenge comes on the heels of Parisi's team losing town elections in November after the conservative No New Tax Party splintered off, taking votes away from Republican candidates.
What a turncoat. How does a conservative Republican stand next to a bunch of Union/Big Labor sellouts. People will see him for what he is an opportunist.

That was a great plug for his friend, soon to be a flip/flop, GP! Just watch the two do a 'gang up campaign' on GA. This appears to have been PLAN ONE right from January 1st. This is just the beginning of the democratic party take over by the 'young republicans'. And GP and AS are leading the way.
Watch out there you dems.......there are new, younger, smarter cowboys in town!!!

Wait til Franny Del Gallo finds out that the County Dems made a deal with Parisi? He want stand for that, he is too strong and doesn't need their Metroplex shakedown money!
We didn't see this coming like a mile away? And more revisionist history about the NNTP from the TU. The NNTP would never have been created if Littlefield and Mertz had been given their due.
GA will crush all opponents. Somebody give them a map of the district and a trail guide.
Frank, Littlefield outworked the entire GOP team, I would agree it was a huge mistake not putting him on the Rep line.
As for Mertz, was he ever a "servant" to the party? I would agree that he must have been very hard to work with, but once the people elected him then you guys had to deal with him.
Are you telling us that if you win, you will be a loyal party servant and NEVER disagree with other elected Reps, the party or a party boss?
