I went to the Fonda Fair and the first booth I hit was the Amesnore booth. I asked the gentleman, who was
manning the booth, where Georgie Porgie Pumpkin Pie, Dissed the Girls and Made em Cry was.  He said
"he was on the fair grounds".  I said "Oh really, is he out living up to his reputation of slamming women".
The gentleman said "don't believe that, it was all blown out of proportion".  Really, all of these women at
this conference heard this and "it was blown out of proportion".  I walked away in disgust.

Schenectady County is NOT a toilet.  It has had some rough economic times.  It is on the road to improvement .. and it is getting there thanks to the "working together works" attitude of the Democrats on the County Legislature and in the city and towns.

Look at the new Marcellas -- great example of "working together works"

SEFCU and the other new businesses on State St -- still more

Yes.. there is much more work to be done ... but we have started to move things in a positive direction.

If you could give more ideas of "successes" that have come from this administration, I would appreciate it.  First, the SEFCU, at the location that it's at?  Well, if you want to park, you can either wait to try to get to one of the parking meters in front of it (which somehow are always full...and/or broken, which I had both on one day down there) or you can drive up the side street and walk down the alley from their parking lot behind it to go to a "success" of relocating a business an entire 2 blocks.

As far as the new Marcella's, tell me, what has actually happened to the old location?  They were supposed to keep that open for a while.  Is this still open?  Also, have you actually went in to see the new location?  Well, there's no parking in front of the building, so you have to actually go in the back door.  Once you do, you have to walk down a long hallway before actually getting to their showroom, which if the back entrance (where the parking lot is) is going to be their main entrance (which I think it should be, since that's how most people will get there, park and come in), they don't even have a location for you to be greeted, one of the main things that I would think would be appropriate for a business of their type.  Instead, they have it set up to their "main" entrance that most likely, only 5% of their customers actually walk in (if that much).

To add another location to your "here's what they did for us" list, let's add Villa Italia.  That's a wonderful little business.  Too bad they actually needed to steal that business from another location (Rotterdam) to bring it downtown.  Good thing the Metroplex is working to help the entire county.  How much of the tax revenue that has been collected through the Metroplex has gone into locations other than Downtown Schenectady to help to make things better?  And let's not forget the other big thing they've done to help Rotterdam, helping Neil Golub to steal all the jobs of his corporate employees to bring them to that new lavish building downtown, ripping those jobs directly from the heart of Rotterdam.

And as far as the topic of this post, Amedore has never once voted against the expansion of the socialist program known as the Metroplex.  As far as my knowledge goes, neither has Angelo Santabarbara.  I don't know that Gerard Parisi has had a chance to vote on anything as far as the Metroplex goes.  I do know that Santabarbara was there at the christening of the land for Rotterdam's newest gin mill.  Glad to see that he thinks kicking out all those businesses is a good idea to put in a new pub.

Downtown Schenectady has a number of new business .. Bombers, Paul Mitchell Salon, Anthology florist, SEFCU bank and eventualy offices .. Subway.. BowTie Cinema .. Katie O Byrnes .. etc

I was at Marcella's for its grand opening .. had no trouble parking and getting in.  I expect to be back
there soon to look for a new stove and refridgerator -- although I will also be looking at Towne TV and
Appliances.     Towne TV sold me a great new tv ... the manager, Paul, was very knowledgeable and     helpful .. and the delievery/set up crew was great.

Marcella's got enough of the taxpayer's money....they don't need anymore! I'll shop elsewhere....out of the county....for my electronic/appliance needs thank you!

I had no say over the stealing of my tax dollars by our local government officials to support private businesses....but I do have a say on where I buy my goods.

How is it that you consider SEFCU part of the successes of downtown?  The fact that they are there?  Well, they've actually been there for quite a while.  What just happened is they were relocated from their previous location to a new location, that's not a success.  Does Bowtie Cinema actually have any people that go to it besides when they have free showings of movies?  You will have no problem finding parking at Marcella's, the fact is there is no run of people going to get in there.  I guess a florist will do OK down there, when Proctors is in session...which I heard is not exactly every day.  What does the florist do for the other days?  And then we fall back to the Government Gin Mills.  Doesn't sound like much of a success to me.  if, in fact all these places WERE successes, wouldn't you think that the government run parking lots surrounding the Metroplex Mile would be swimming in the money instead of drowning in red ink?  Or is the bus line that successful down there?

EXACTLY!! I have talked to many businesses down there and they are all hurting!

It is incestuous to say the least. Susan Savage gives Metroplex our tax dollars.....the Metroplex doles it out to the chosen few contractors..............the businesses receive taxpayer money at a low to zero interest rate AND go bankrupt to boot................the businesses start faltering and they go right back to the beginning where Susan Savage continues to weave her incestuous web!!!!!

And the counties taxes continue to rise and the dss line is getting longer and the unemployment lines are getting longer and more people are just walking away from their homes because they can't afford to pay their taxes!

I would love to see the media interview the people in the dss line and in the unemployment line and ask them how the metroplex is working for them. Ask them how proctors is working for them. And how many times they went to the BowTie cinima! And how Marcella's new location is helping them. It is a joke!! IMHO

Amedore’s comments were a joke, not a sign of sexism

Re Aug. 29 letter, “Amedore should keep sexist jokes to himself”: As a hard-working, single mother in Schenectady, I must take issue with the letter to the editor from Colleen Castillo chastising Assemblyman George Amedore for simply trying to make an ice-breaking joke while giving a speech to a professional women’s group.
I have taken the time to learn about Mr. Amedore since he became our assemblyman just a few short years ago. I have been very impressed by his actions and am not offended as a working-class woman or as a single mother by his words that obviously meant no disrespect to women.
I also find it disingenuous for Ms. Castillo to reference the amount of money that Mr. Amedore earns as a private businessman. As a professional working woman, I would think Ms. Castillo is striving to make as much money as possible and nobody should begrudge any fellow private businessperson the success they earned. In fact we need more successful people like Mr. Amedore in Albany because the career politicians just aren’t cutting it.
Upon reading her letter I decided to fi nd out more about Mr. Amedore. I found out that Mr. Amedore has spearheaded an annual effort to raise money for breast cancer by sponsoring and promoting the “Shoot for a Cure” in Schenectady County. He also contributes to many charities and causes in our community and many that support women in business, such as the Chamber of Schenectady County.
Mr. Amedore is also married and the father of three children, including a daughter, and as a Christian man, I am sure he has the highest respect for all women.
In a time when people are worried about being too politically correct, we should not be too quick to judge somebody just trying to make a lighthearted statement when they appear before a group.

Amedore is an affront to the everyday working stiff.  He IS sexist.  His particular brand of Christianity keeps women in the kitchen.  But as i have said before, a woman's place IS in the House and the Senate and in this case the NYS Assembly.  He's done NOTHING since he has been in office.  He can barely get out an inteligible sentence.  He needs to go.

You don't make sense .. you claim that taxes are high in Schenectady and that businesses are hurting
BUT you will go OUTSIDE the county to do business.   That is utter foolishness.

I quess the words of Calvin Coolidge apply to this debate as well. It is pointless to
debate with a person who will take a position that only serves to make the economic
problems in our county and town worse.

You can always buy at TOWN TV. They get no grant funding.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
