Lots of room at the tables
Marv Cermak

It's no secret the Schenectady County Republican Party annual dinner has been an attendance flop ever since Democrats took control of most everything in sight.

Comes word this year's GOP major fundraiser March 3 at the Glen Sanders Mansion will feature the 19-piece Georgie Wonders Big Band.

A guy I know with an invite to the $110 bash said he's not going. "Band members will probably outnumber the people at the dinner," he wisecracked.

In 2000, main speaker Gov. George Pataki lured 700 to the dinner. The event drew only 122 last year.

A GOP business owner asking to remain nameless is upset. "Republicans will have to hire people to come to the dinner," he said.

County GOP Chairman Tom Buchanan remains upbeat. "We do quite well considering city and county Democrats control all patronage and award all contracts for goods and services," he said.

Thanks MT for the help on creating a thread. Regarding the small attendance...the truth is I went to the Democrats gloating party two weeks ago.  Frankly it was not as well attended as I was expecting.  Only big wig I saw was Tonko not even Savage--the ususal suspects were there BUT considering the event, I expected more.  People just don't have the bucks for this stuff and they are becoming apathetic on both sides of the aisle.

Thanks again.

After considerable thought and with my background in development, might I suggest with the Lincoln Day dinner (in March? instead of putting up the bucks for a band, you offer a dunking stool or pie in the face for Tom and Gerry--maybe ST would like to help his party as well.

not apathetic----just pissed off.......it's against the law to yell "TAXES-BIG GUMBAS" at a political fundraiser.....so why bother going....????

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Well....instead of everyone b!tching about the reps.....why not join and support them for change? I'm a conservative minded registered blank. I don't support, follow or agree with the liberal socialist democrats. If our local reps can pull a viable candidate out of their hats....one that has conservative values and integrity and is willing to go against the special interest groups....I will support them.

Sure not many folks like the 'leader' of the party. But what if the 'leader' stays? Is everyone going to settle for the status quo? Is everyone going to settle for the liberal socialist democrats that runa just about EVERYTHING?

Look at the city...pathetic! Look at the county leg....pathetic! Look at rotterdam....more than pathetic!

I'm not saying to support anyone just because they have an 'r' after their name. I'm suggesting that everyone start looking around and at themselves and take a stand! If ya want the reps to become a viable party again....they need support. If ya want to support an independent...then support him/her! Start a tea party movement!!! Do something!!

Just start thinking now....cause we gotta get these present liberal socialist out of office.IMHO

Nobody in their right mind wants to climb into the big pile of sh*t called politics to run for an office and the ones that are there are leaving because they've had enough.
