Does it mean, that, say, your elderly parent who breaks his/her leg and can't go out to a notary, then, loses the  STAR exemption because they can't get to the bank where there might be a notary, or to their attorney who would be a notary, or to the town clerk who may be a notary?

If someone cannot sign their signature due to arthritis, do they lose out on the exemption?

I know, the state is a pain requiring that application every year.  what if the homeowner had a heart attack and is in a coma in the hospital, must they lose the exeption because they cannto sign their signature in front of a notary?

Hey look at the supposed will written on a piece of kleenex or something done by the guy on his deathbed giving everything to Frank Duci

Very noble outlook. How about the person who is trying to get away wit medicaid fraud or social security fraud. Just run it up to the town clerk with a sob story about your elderly parent and she will notarize it.

I agree with you mc ... but, someone with arthritis can leave a "mark" - an X perhaps - and as long as they have ID, the notary can make a visual verifcation that that's the person leaving the "mark".

In a coma - well, no, there's no notary in comaland ... but even in the hospital, there's patient reps that can setup a notary to come to a room, or power of attorney provisions that allow another to sign in their absense, right?

I held great respect for Eunice, for a LONG time, but my respect was toppled 100% - or more - with this story, and her admission of fraud. She needs to step down from the office, she can no longer be trusted, IMHO.

no--what it means is that Star is a podium puck just to make us have this stupid conversation.....it's too bad the state didn't do business in front of their 'notaries'(taxpayers)

they want us to have this conversation.....the fact remains that STAR is BUST....and a big fat election joke on us.....

you see it's a tax reduction here only to get picked up on the other end and the next generation.....in the mean time the gumbas all have their hands in the pot of stuff
that should never be kept in the hands of the government......

.BTW I think if someone is in a coma they have a
proxy in place with POA etc.......

Gee Bumble, MM and MT I didn't realize we were in the presences of such "perfect" human beings.  After all the years MT you respected her, this would topple that??  Sounds to me like you all can be bought and sold fairly easily.  And MM how did you get to be so perfect.  Never a speeding ticket or other MV violation?  Nothing that anyone looked the other way?  Wow you guys are very impressive.
And Bumble don't try that "liberal" crap on me.  You guys are incredible.

Going to bed now to pray that my Lord and Savior will imbue me with your self-righteousness!  LOL

If you knew me, you'd know that friends have my 100% confidence, until proven otherwise, then I fell I can never trust them again. I've been there with family, employees, employers, politicians and everyday friends / business acquaintances.  I'll trust the person implicitly, until proven otherwise.  Bought and sold easily? Hardly.

Certainely you Senders, above a lot of other people here, know that is not always the case. What about the bicyclist, picture of health, hit by a car and left in a coma for months ... what about the young car accident victim who never had a care in the world, that ends up in a coma - or worse, vegetative, never even DREAMED about having a health care proxy or POA?  I'd wager not 50% of the people in this forum have a valid health care proxy setup (and even if they did, a health care proxy doesn't give them any authority outside of making health care decisions).

Sorry--if Eunice signed for disabled folks who couldn't come out--seniors specifically--get off her back.  So what.  In my opinion she did the right thing.  These are people who have known her forever and have voted her in.  She extended compassion to these people.  Big freakin deal.  And btw if a Republican did the same thing, I would applaud it.  Sometimes you people--yeah YOU people never know when its time to combine your head with your heart.  Broke the law--a little civil disobedience.  I don't get the Gazette--relying on your info.

the dude was DEAD  -  in the ground

kind of hard to make it to town hall

someone gets a STAR and i have to pay extra to make up for that kind dead   -  thx

Considering if the document doesn't get notarized, one's elderly parent could have to pay upwards of $600 in extra tax dollars, I think it's worth paying a notary $50-$100 to go to WHEREVER that person is, and getting the job done.

However, that matters none to the task at hand.  A crime was committed, and admitted.  The glove fits, here...Eunice should be encouraged to resign at the next town board meeting.  Additionally, I feel as if Fiorillo would be a perfect replacement for her.  Town hall experience, runner-up in the election, her appt. would encourage bi-partisanship - you know, the kind of bi-partisanship this board fears, which is why they replaced the IDA and fired good employees.

The Town's administration looks like a bunch of buffoons.  Eunice is a very nice lady but that doesn't give her the right to break the law and for ND to defend her is ridiculous.  I watched the replay of the 1/13 TB meeting and it's apparent that ND needs to learn Roberts Rules of Meeting before she takes on anything else.  And she is an educator?  Gee, I learned RR of M in grade school.    What a joke!

The current administration needs to take a close look and get their ducks in order before Rotterdam becomes a national landmark like Schenectady's Roach House.   What will the name be?  Rotterdam's Buffoon Troupe?

that would take a mother f'in miracle
until then who is authorized to sign?????? - no one.
yep, the town board in on the ball - you would think it is a part-time job paying minimum wage
most minimum wage earners are smarter then members of our town board with 4 year degrees

In which case the friggin' lawyers get involved and trust me, there is a notary on site, if not they are getting one soon.....competency must be determined legally
usually social workers have the notary.....
