I don't know about you, but I don't want my town to be run in an "eye for an eye," vengeful manner. Do your jobs!
It would be nice if people could play nice but it seems to me that Parisi started off pissing the very people he needs to work with off. If I have a soldier in my command that can't get with my way of doing things then I will send them packing. Descension is not tolerated.
In Politics you don't have the ability to make detractors go away but you do have the ability to make it hard for them to work against you. Anyone who thinks that you can work in a political relm without any give and take is being ignorant to reality.
Ah, but there is something very important that we call the law, that also plays a factor. It appears that Gerard is aware of this strange "law" concept, and it using it. If Godlewski and Del Gallo had the "law" on their side, well then by golly, don't you think we would have heard about it by now?
I understand that you may have the ability to unilaterally remove people from your unit. But different laws apply to military, especially to military overseas. I wouldn't attempt to run your unit like a politician...you can't in good conscience expect to run a town like a military state.
If I am not mistaken there have been some changes to the FOIL law. Not sure how much that effects this incident but changes were made as of 1 jan 2010.

If there were any changes pertinent to this situation, Robert Freeman would know...he is the guru on this subject. The Town Board is definitely in the wrong on this one.
from the Gazette article: Robert Freeman, the executive director of the state Committee on Open Government, chastised the town for not complying with Parisi’s request.
I never said they were not wrong for not sharing. I even stated the opposite in my first post. That doesn't change the fact that they haven't given the man what he is asking for and there has been no further action to make them do so. Why?
The municipalities have the responsibility to act in accordance with FOIL, hence the residents look to the Town Board to perform within these laws. Don't worry, within two years there will be all new players...the current admin has shown that they cannot be trusted and don't know what they are doing!
FOIL law allows for time to respond, and comply. I believe the first window is five days, and the second window is 20 days. If that time has expired (I don't know if it has) then my guess is Mr Parissi is preparing for an Article 78 hearing!
A resident can bring a lawsuit against the town via Article 78 and this can be done without legal representation. The problem that the Town faces is that they will need to pay for their own legal rep and face the bad press. It hasn't occurred recently in Rotterdam but this new Administration is so lame that it's only a matter of time before it happens. And this will ensure that in two years, there will be all new players!
