Yup that was what I was referring. And yes, I spoke to an attorney in the AG's office who has worked there through Dems and REps as Governor. He said Andy Brick is correct. Not up to me to make an official ask. I posed the question in a social situation. And BTW there were other lawyers in the audience that day who agreed with Brick. Sorry--GP needs to say Adios!
Weren't there multiple attorneys on both sides? You are using a cocktail party off-the-cuff response from an attorney working in the AG's office as the deciding authority? I'm trying to remember my grade school civics (it's been a while) but wasn't GP right when he said that the Board can't decide what is legal or illegal, only courts can? When I hear a judge say the Board was right or wrong I will consider the issue resolved. Until then, it seems like an open issue for these damn lawyers to argue and try to make a buck.
As Reagan would say "there you go again." I would say the very emphatic Mr. Brick ended that conversation on Jan. 1. It is not up to me to take it to court. And for sure it was cocktail conversation but the real point of the conversation is that GP didn't know his way around that one and then proceeded to put another attorney up to the silly question as a mischief maker and instead made himself look like a dolt.

alleykat, I am not a lawyer, perhaps you are. If you are can you direct me to the law that says that the individual that is most emphatic wins? I always thought that cases were won based on law. Of course I came to that conclusion based on Judge Wapner and Law and Order, so perhaps I'm wrong. Does that mean that if GP had yelled louder than Mr. Brick, he would have been right? Interesting...
TBV don't object too strenuously you might give yourself a hernia. My dear GL the AG Lawyer from the cocktail party appears to know his stuff. Like Brick he is an excellent municipal attorney. As you will remember IT WAS BRICK who cited the case law on Jan. 1 while the ever so stunned GP sat there with a sheepish and embarrassed look on his face. That must be way he dressed so casually for the event, he wanted to get lost in the crowd and what a crowd....Dems there to greet the new leadership. GP it wouldn't have mattered if GP yelled so that they heard him in Schoharie, he was simply wrong. Made folks wonder what else he screwed up while at the helm of the Town. Take it to court and see where it goes. I have neither the interest or extra bucks to futher explore what is already law.
Parisi aside, Brick was not a very good town attorney...
But as for Rep leadership, I really like what Fiorillo had to offer when we met during the last election...perhaps she will also take on some sort of leadership role? The Reps need better communication and organization. The Dems have it, that's for sure.
alleykat, I remember Andy talking about an attorney general's opinion, I don't remember him talking about law. I'm no legal scholar, does an attorney general's opinion letter equate to law? Does anyone know the answer to this?

Absolutely correct, BT. As a Rotterdam Republican committee person, Jim has my vote for the position and full support and good wishes. I hope he can bring about the healing and unity that is needed. As far as the committee people that didn't help with last fall's campaign, they need to relinquish their seats and be replaced with people that are willing to walk the mile(s), to support this fall's slate of candidates.
Gerard is doing a great job as a councilman and should run in the fall. I watched with amazement the meeting broadcast on Saturday on Channel 16 at 1:00. By far Gerard is professional, knowlegeable and trying to do what is right by the town folks.
We have a long shot in the Gov's race that needs all the work of Republican hands and feet to get back in control of this State before it's too late.

As far as Longo becoming the rotterdam rep chair and although he seems like a nice guy......I would have preferred to have had an unknown.... 'new face'. Not a name or a person that has been around forever. I'm cautious that it will not become another good old boys club. Rotterdam is famous for recycling the retreads.
