Petraeus calls gunscope inscriptions "disturbing"
By David Alexander David Alexander Thu Jan 21, 11:37 pm ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. General David Petraeus said on Thursday it was "disturbing" that a manufacturer had embossed biblical citations on rifle scopes sent to Afghanistan and Iraq, and the firm announced it would voluntarily halt the practice.

"This is a big concern to the Army and the Marine Corps, who have contracted for these particular sites," said Petraeus, the head of U.S. Central Command, noting the religious sensitivities American forces face in the two Muslim countries.

"This is of serious concern to me and to the other commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan because, indeed, it conveys a perception that is absolutely contrary to what it is that we have sought to do," Petraeus told a forum at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

"It is disturbing to us, frankly, that this was done," he added.

President Barack Obama has sought to convince the Muslim world that the U.S. fight against al Qaeda militants should not be viewed as a war against Islam.

Former President George W. Bush heightened those concerns shortly after the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington when he referred to his war on terrorism as a "crusade," a remark critics warned raised images of Christian knights attacking Muslim cities during the Middle Ages...................>>>>......................>>>>...................http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100122/ts_nm/

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

The most disturbing  verse can be found posted right here on the Rotterdam forum by Moblile Termiale
'May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership.' Psalm 109:8

Is the prayer  only for Obama to lose the 2012 election ? And only pray verse 8 and not verse 9.  Why not verse 9?

"May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow." Psalm 109:9-  Now there is a nice prayer for the Presidents family -

No one should wish death on anyone – especially our President..

Some people could get the wrong idea when they first read Psalm 109:8.  The context of the passage is of an evil leader being killed – it is not talking about someone being voted out of office.  I believe proper use of the Bible centers around using verses in their proper context-

Interesting that you look at this from this angle.  I, for one, agree with this message, although not for the reason that you are stating, "the context of the passage is of an evil leader being killed."  Personally, I look at it that our offices have a way for the person in office to be removed before the time of an election by the process of impeachment.  It doesn't say "may one take his life so another will take his place of leadership," it just states about the person in question being removed from the office... unless, of course, you're looking for reasons to blame people.

What I find interesting is that it seems most conservatives dont actually read-study the bible .  Your spiritual compass is always set by some political agenda your party makes-

Psalm 109:8-9  isn't really very funny.  The passage goes on --asking God to pulverize this guy-
The "Prayer for Obama," does more than anticipate that he leaves office; it asks God to destroy the president -

KM- maybe you wanna dust that bible off and quit listening to Rush Limbogh

Sorry- I meant most of the conservatives posting here in this forum -- Look at KM trying to defend the ' context ' -

Again, Somebody=Fail.  Don't put words in my mouth. I quoted verse 8 ... not 9.

First of all none of you seem to have read the whole psalm   The psalmist in this case may or may not be David.  But it is definitely written by a man who is in trouble and is tortured by lies and other issues that are tormenting him. He begins by praising God and begs for God's help. It also depends what version you are reading.  MT--they are right--you and other Conservatives should stop picking and choosing what you want to bash the President.  The way you use it is threatening and it is objectionable.  As for the rest of the crowd--KM get off it.  You can't rationalize that biblical verse out of context.  Somebody I don't think MT is wishing death on the President BUT I have heard others who post here make that assertion in public.  No I will not name names because that just throws more fuel on this argument for Reps and Dems and certainly Cons.

The use of that verse is rapidly becoming a mantra of right wing conservatives.  I have also seen in on the Schdy blog and someone was wearing it on a tee shirt in the mall two weeks ago.  I found that interesting because you are not allowed to wear a tee that says "Give peace a chance."  Just ask Steve Downes.  My suggestion is that you all refer to the Bible to use it for good.

If anyone finds it "objectionable" - use the "ignore user" function in your user control panel.  Last I knew, we still had the right of free speech.  It's not intended to be a "threat" - it's a prayer. Objectionable? I won't argue that - there were a lot of people that voted for Obama ... once, but I doubt again. That was objectionable to me, it's all free speech/thought, something guaranteed to us in the Bill of Rights - until trounced upon by the current administration.

Besides, you (and others) INTERPRETED it to mean that I was inferring to Obama ... I never stated that. It's just as well suited for Tommasone, Stratton, Buchanan, Savage, Paterson - ANY elected official.  If you CHOOSE to think I was (previously) inferring the sitting POTUS, well, that's YOUR opinion.

MT--that's bull and you know it.  You meant it for Obama especially your knowing that Cons are using that against Obama.  However, I didn't think you meant that the President should die and his kids made orphans and all the rest of his family should die as well. That's dark even for you. So pipe down, I defended you.
