SCHENECTADY COUNTY Police exam doesn’t signal chiefs’ exits BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Rotterdam Police Chief James Hamilton said he doesn’t plan on retiring anytime soon, even though he has called for a civil service exam for his position. Hamilton said he wanted to be sure the list of eligible candidates for the chief’s position is up to date “just in case” he does decide to retire in the near future. The 43-year-old chief said he’s considering retirement in the next “two or three years” but plans to be with the department at least through 2010. Rotterdam is among three Schenectady County municipalities that have scheduled a police chief’s exam with the Schenectady County Civil Service Commission. Niskayuna and Glenville have also scheduled exams, although the chiefs from both departments don’t have any intention of leaving their posts as of now. County spokesman Joe McQueen said both of those exams were ordered by the municipalities, which haven’t conducted tests for the police chief position since 2006. He was unsure when Rotterdam last scheduled an exam. .........>>>>.................>>>>...................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01100&AppName=1
