I attended many town board meetings and Bob G would have been the first to stand up and criticize the termination of Kim and hiring a secretary from out of the area and paying her more money as not the best way to spend the towns money as it's going to cost the town more. Now that Bob is on the town board how come he's not acting in the taxpayers best interest.
EXACTLY! Godlewski blows in the direction that the wind best suits him.
I don't know the specifics or the inner workings of 'government' jobs. I only know the specifics in the private sector. I will reiterate from previous posts.......If this was NOT an appointed position and this person was 'hired'. If she was doing her job. If she never had a negative review in her file, there is no reason for firing/laying off. You can not let a person go due to personality conflicts. (which I doubt was initiated by Kim) Working through personality differences is showing good leadership. You can not tell the employee that you have eliminated the position and then turn around and hire someone else at an even higher rate of pay. YOU JUST CAN NOT!!!
Personally, I wouldn't waste my breath at a town board meeting. I would contact the labor board and seek legal council. It appears to be a cut and dry labor dispute.
As far as Bob 'no change', he has always bullied his way around town hall. I have heard that from both dems and reps. They say he walks in like he owns the place and 'demands' that people drop what they are doing just to satisfy he needs.
I expect nothing less than a circus act from this idiotic town board. Only in rotterdam....the laughing stock of the capital district!
The new administration is going to get their moneys worth out of the new attorney, if nothing else. I wonder how much she'll win, er this is going to cost taxpayers.
Kim can fight the fight, but at the end of the day, she was in an appointed job and there doesn't need to be a reason for her to be let go. In NYS we have exempt jobs meaning they didn't take an exam to get appointed to their job off a civil service list. Sounds like Kim was in the equivalent of an exempt position for the town. At anytime these exempt folks can be let go. Typically, there is someone in line who wants the job that has more political clout or the correct political affiliation. When governor's and/or commissioner's change, these folks typically get nervous because they could be out of a job. It has nothing to do with job performance. I can name quite a few that were let go that were doing an outstanding job only to be replaced by political hacks.
Steve fought Eunice to get a regular civil service position, somebody off a list, in her office. She wanted her friend to stay on. What he did was right.
Right now, NYS government is loaded with these types of appointments. It degrades those of us who came up the ranks by taking these stupid exams and competing in the civil service system to be pushed aside by an exempt appointment.
Some types of jobs needs exempts and some don't. Regardless, Kim was in that type of job by the looks of it and she hasn't a leg to stand on for holding her position. What she needs to do is ask for a good letter of recommendation and go out the door quietly.
Sorry Kim it has nothing to do with you being competent and qualified.
Right on HH. Hopefully the rest of the Board whiners will understand that nobody cares about Kim Bruhns and her plight. What civil service test did she take to get her job? None. Out with the political winds of change and reform. Tah Tah. I hope the winds are still howling because there are somemore political deadbeats lurking in TH. Without naming names check out some of the salary boosts over the past 4-5 years and you will smell patronage stink! Craig Surprise can't be sleeping too well these days eh HH?
To be honest, I didn't speak to try and save my job. I know that's a done deal. I just wanted the truth to be out there. And the fact of the matter is, I was told they had to eliminate my job due to budget reasons. I don't understand why they can't just 'fess up about that. It's kind of ridiculous actually.
alleykat, forgive me, I'm new here. I didn't realize the normal way to disagree with a person's political view was to call him/her a guinea/guido/etc. I had this weird thought that perhaps we should be judging others by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. I think this is particularly relevant to bring up now because Harry Reid is getting ripped apart for saying Obama doesn't speak with a "negro accent." What is the difference between calling Obama a Negro and calling Italians in this town a guinea/guido/etc.? There is no difference and there is no room for ethnic/racial prejudices in our political rhetoric: the town is in bad enough shape as it is, we don't need to add that dynamic.
Oh please green. Go play the manufactured outrage card somewhere else. I guess you can equate me saying guinea, to Chris Rock or other black entertainers using the N word. I am Italian! I can say it! Trying to pull Don Imus BS on me?
If you read my post in context, my guinea comment was referring to POLITICAL PARTIES acting like crime families, NOT political views or ideology. I was commenting on how when the balance of power swings in this town, the incoming party send the hit men to take out the other families soldiers. It’s a joke. If you think that comment is the problem with this town you're way off base. Peoples party loyalty divides the town more than my guinea comment.

You are kidding me here....right?????

You see no problem equating respected members of the legal community with crime bosses, solely because they are Italian, or work in a community with a high population of Italian-Americans? If the argument is that Italian mobsters act in a certain way and that party officials are acting similarly, the officials can be equated to mob bosses, does that make it ok to equate Obama to black gangsters because of his bully-mentality methods of ramming the health care bill through the Congress? There is no reason to equate Italians with the mob, why not just say you think these tactics are brutal and antidemocratic? Is it really necessary to equate all Italians as mobsters? At what point will we get passed this stereotype?
Try again, and Re-read my post. And please look up the definition of hyperbole.
Which of the "respected" members of the legal community are you referring to? I made a general statement about Rotterdam politics in response to Alleycats "Godfather" comment. My remark was never pointed at a specific person. If you took it literally, or have a complex, that's your problem.
Again, I didn't equate ALL Italians to mobsters. I equated local political parties to crime families. You drew the conclusion of ALL Italians. It's not my fault pop culture and Hollywood makes it easy to use mafia hyperbole.
This is Rotterdam politics in a nutshell. Thanks Alley. I couldn't have articulated the moronic Rotterdam guinea mentality any better. Political parties are crime families. Ya got ya Dons and ya Capo's ya Capo Bastone, ya Consigliere.
Hey,,bada-bing!
Please re-read. Where do I equate Italians with the mob? I do explicitly equate political parties to crime families. Wow! Talk about making sh*t up.
