Very interesting move by Angelo. From his voting record, legislation, and photos ops with Sen. Schumer, Angs politcs could be questioned. If he was working well with majority then why the need to switch? Wonder what he was promised?
My first piece of legislation would be that an elected official could not switch parties midterm. Let the voters decide if they approve of that decision.
Just my opinion - figured i would chime in since it has come to attention that my name was being mentioned on this board. and for the record Angelo lost my vote.
Well too bad you guys don't want to stick by Angelo. On the other hand, I was at a party last night where more than eight folks (3 Reps, 2 Cons, 1 blank and 2 Dems) said they would support Ang. Another interesting comment heard was by the Cons in attendance who said "if GP switches out to Cons they would NEVER support him." They felt he has done nothing but damage the Town and his party in many many ways that are too long for me to itemize. BTW I would still support Angelo as well--I like him.
Liking him has nothing to do with it as it's all about his political beliefs that are called into question. We don't need another tax and spend liberal elected to office and that includes any Reps that have the same beliefs.
I lay the blame for the demise of the county Republican party squarely at the feet of Buchanan and Parisi. Buchanan doesn't run candidates in the City of Schenectady because he assumes that they can't win.
Parisi decides to abandon Mertz's reelection bid to the Rotterdam Town Board by announcing, before the committee voted, that the Republican party wouldn't endorse Mertz and instead would cede Suhrada's county seat by not having Joe run for reelection.
Buchanan denied endorsements to two electable candidates (with the party backing) O'Connor and Littlefield which led to the formation of the No New Tax Party, that indisputably drew from the Republican party support.
Buchanan reportedly did little to support the party endorsed candidates including Lazzari, Viscusi and Barrie. The party also did not embrace and support O'Connor after he legitimately won the Republican party primary. Word on the street is that the number of party members who participated in the final literature drops could be counted on two hands.
Now, Santabarbara, formerly one of the party's "up and comers" leaves the party to join the opposition. If Parisi is such good friends w/ Santabarbara, couldn't he have convinced him to remain in the Republican party camp?
Enough of the bad stewardship of our Republican party. Also, enough of those on the party committee who either cede their proxies to Parisi and Buchanan or vote to support their continued tenure. How do we (few) remaining Republicans in town take back the party from those who have destroyed it? When and how can we run for the committee?
Lastly, where is the State Republican party leadership? Will they sit idley by and watch as the county party continues to self-destruct under its current "leadership"?

Talking to each other is better than talking about each other
Once again, Tom Buchannan is the greatest thing to ever happen to the Schdy County Democrats. I'm so glad to see that the Republicans just re-elected him to be Chairman again since he is doing such a wonderful job. Just ask him, it's always someone elses fault...
I'm shocked and very disappointed in Angelo. He is a bright guy and I thought held the beliefs of many of us die hard Republicans. As a committee person, I am hereby calling for fellow Repulicans to step up to the plate and let's build up the party starting right here in Rotterdam.
For the record, Barrie is still a Republican and has no intention of switching. She will stick by her party and principles of small government and being conservative with taxpayer dollars. Protecting the environment is about being conservative. Although the Tea party folks are very interesting, she isn't jumping on board yet.
How's it go we are Democrats until we grow up and then we figure out we are paying the bill for all those values and we turn into Republicans. That happened to Barrie about 7 years ago and she never regretted changing. Party affiliation is about philosophy, not being on the side of who is in control. It's not a club, it's a belief.
As a Republican commitee person, I will not back Angelo. I can understand Republicans endorsing a Conservative, but a Dem?? That just is plain ridiculous.
Huskyhowls - how about starting by changing your county chair? That's where the attention should be focused right now - not on a turncoat that lost his core supporters in a stroke of the pen. Change needs to happen from the top down, not the bottom up.
Well MT, I supported Tom for county chair, because I didn't see anyone beating down the door for the position. We need someone from the Republican party in Schenectady County to step up to the plate. It's a thankless job. I certainly hope the predictions for GP to switch party are wrong. Maybe Jim Tedisco will follow through on term limits and become Schenectady Co chair. Joe Suhrada would also be good. You can't find a fellow that holds his Republicans values so dearly more than Joe.
Does this switch in party enrollment have any significance regarding whether Chazen Engineering, for who Santabarbara works, continues to serve as the Town of Rotterdam's engineering firm with the IDA?
Maybe Ang felt he needed to switch to hang on to his IDA position. I hadn't thought about that. Good point Brad. Unfortunately, it stinks that he would be in that situation.
