I was recently surprised to find that the terms of agreement for my credit cards were
revised to the banks advantage.  My interest rates were increased from 5.24% to 12.99%
on one account and from 6.49% to 12.49% on the other.

I called the bank and was told that it was not due to late payments or exceeding my
credit limit, neither of which have I done, but results from the legislation governing
bank credit card charges.  The legislation reportedly provides some protection to those
who are considered credit risks at the expense of those who are responsible with their
finances.

I was told that most all banks have implemented a significant increase in credit card
interest rates for their best customers.  Many accounts that previously had no annual
fees will now be charged an annual fee.

I closed one of the accounts that had a zero balance.  The other will be closed
after I receive my next billing statement and pay off the account.  Be aware, that
closing credit card accounts can adversely impact your credit score (slightly).  Seems
that creditors want to see individuals with lots of available credit who manage it
responsibly.

Be informed.  Check your terms.  And, if you have/want to close one or more,
consider the one that employs an off-shore / outsourced customer service
department.  We need to retain the jobs at home!

I've already closed 2 accounts with a local large bank due to the way they treat their customers and also the low interest rates that they pay and deposited the money back in the credit union which pays more for a money market than the bank paid for a 12 month CD.
