Why is it that those who don't work get a covered bus stop
and those who work just get a sign

That's ok. While we are driving to 'work', to pay for the ones that don't work in our nice warm cars, they are standing outside the dss building on broadway in the cold and snow.

I dont think it would fit asthetically in that area.....

The reward for working is a paycheck, benefits, independence, self supporting, a feeling of accomplishment, wanting to better one's life and respect.

Tippy ya gotta know by now that the the government will continue to make and keep the 'non workers' more dependent on them. Food, a roof over one's head, healthcare, prescriptions, HEAP, clothes, an education......why stop there...give'm a covered bus stop too.

but it does not need to be that way.

aesthetics??? the town garage, that building Shalmont used to call a home???
we pay 1/2 a million dollars in weed control in this town and the weed team finally cuts down the weeds when they are finished growing. - you saw it happen this year

now we have a local building supply company that straddles both sides if the railroad tracks, a regional super market and a local property management group, a small garage and a national chain gas station/minimart

it kills me that a couple of local companies and local government can get off there a$$ and clean things up a bit

what are we talking here, a couple of bags of cement some pavers a little lumber, a couple of squares of shingles,
plywood  and some labor

if i remember right sick employees cost more then healthy ones

it looks to me the national chain is the only one with any pride  - though i do see some signs of hope with the ind
park sign and the building supply store sign - maybe the old sign frame across from dunnsville will be removed

Oh, I know what it is... It is the State Engineer in charge of Rt 7 who wont install a traffic light or allow the bus stops
Most likely the same guy/gal who put up the literate/illiterate "no turn of red" signs

food for you thoughts.....

Ya know tippy, the more I thought about this bus stop thing, I got to wondering exactly how many people actually use the bus at the golub/industrial park/bellvue builders area. Is it 1,3,17,30...?? Any time I've gone by there may have been 3 at best. But it could have been at an off time. I really don't know.

And just food for thought, is it really an employers responsibility to provide shelter for people who use a bus to get back and forth to work when 99.9% of their employees drive?   How about automatic car starters for the rest of the employees? It can get ridiculous if ya think about it?

And if you notice, in rotterdam anyway....there were no bus shelters until walmart came on the scene. Perhaps there was one before walmart....but I really don't remember.

Also, more food for thought, if some think that there should be bus shelters for the working community, why stop there? What about the people who take buses to go shopping? Or to go to church? Or who go to doctors visits? Or who go visit family and friends?  What about the 'poor seniors' that wait along curry rd's bus route?

Be careful what ya wish for!

in a word yes!

this community needs to become less dependent on personal automobiles
we need to begin to develop a system of circles and x's
and some usable light rail
public transportation works in the rest of of the world
a comp plan that works!
and i'm sure if you respectfully ask some of the seniors at the center, they used to use public transportation
without the stigma it has today

the difference between our public transportation and the rest of the world is a visual presence of law enforcement
on there feet in public and not in a car

I respectfully disagree 100% on this one Tippy. Are you implying that you would like to see more bus stops sprinkled throughout rotterdam? Rotterdam is a town that is the home of more stop signs than God could want and a town that is nothing more than a two lane highway....ALL of rotterdam is a two lane highway. Traffic on curry road and altamont ave is congested enough and suggesting that there be more buses/bus stops would only slow traffic and add to the congestion. We see that in the mornings and mid afternoon with school buses. Then add snow fall into the mix....... and even though I think that rotterdam has the best plowed roads in the county, there is very little wiggle room after a major snow storm.

Rotterdam is just a small little town/hamlet. Rotterdam is filled to the brim already. Adding and encouraging and supporting more public transportation just doesn't make good sense to me. If people want more access to public transportation, then they can move to our 'urban city of schenectady'.

And to think that people will stop driving automobiles and opt for a bus ride is just ludicrous. IMHO

I was being facetious.....a warehouse worker with a family of 4 certainly couldn't afford to own our expensive homes in Rotterdam and
afford the new increase from the new townwide valuation .....so who are the workers? and we know they certainly cant afford the city taxes
and if Golub expands the asthetics of the area would crumble........

new townwide valuation - as was discussed on this board before this model was chosen as a concept that is
based on ones' ability to pay.

generally the more money you earn the more you will spend on real property, the larger your family. However, it fails to take into account reproduction, inheritance, rural non-production real property, and retirement

the best thing we can do now is embrace the process and work the process to the letter of the law and exploit its
weakness(remove the surprise not the Surprise) - some of which have been discussed on this board

"so who are the workers? and we know they certainly cant afford the city taxes
and if Golub expands the asthetics of the area would crumble........"

two items here

one "who are the workers?" this comment erks me to no end.  regardless who the workers are they should be
treated with a lost concept  - respect, conversely i expect the same from them in my community

By working in our community they have become members our community and should be treated as such

"Golub expands the asthetics of the area would crumble........"

this statement is only true if we let it by crumbling to our knees if fear that they might leave.  There is a fine
line between demands of the property owner and of the community, for years this community has been begging after the screw ups of the 70-80's.  Now is the time to stand on the fence and learn to balance business growth with
community demands - failure to do so will leave rotterdam looking like the innards of the rotterdam and scotia
industrial parks

I agree with you wholeheartedly Tip.....I was trying to see where everyone stood on Rotterdam---"A Nice Place to Live"(work?)......

Comp plan with expectancy,,,,certainly not tit for tat gumbas........

as for retirement/reproduction etc.....we should always be ready to either flee or dig in........if we cant plan our lives then our town cant plan......
I certainly dont expect to be able to afford my home in retirement........especially in NYS---until 'IT' gets off my back........
