I think that walmart is just trying to portray themselves as 'warm and fuzzy' now!

Hannoford isn't locally based, or even nationally based.  Hannaford is owned by the Delhaize Group based out of Belgium.  Kinda puts the Golub Corporation and Price Chopper's success in perspective.  They successfully compete against multinational corporations like Wal-Mart and Dehaize(Hannaford), and we have residents like Clubhouse bitching about expanding their distribution center so they can compete.  Some people don't realize the diamond we have here in our backyards.  Lets learn our lessons from the stranglehold we put on General Electric, and realize the positive of Golub in Rotterdam far outweigh the disruption it may cause to the residents affected by the expansion.

We were at a funeral in Albany today.  The get-together afterwards was at Grandma's (haven't had one of their pies in ages, yum!).  Since we were going to have to go past Colonie Center we figured afterwards we'd stop there, finish up with whatever we'd buy there so we don't have to come back to Albany again.  Once again, a week day early afternnoon.  Lots of people.  Parking anywhere near Sears was out of the question,  We found one in the back by the cemetery.  Don't know if everyone was actually shopping, buying, maybe just doing window shopping.  Oh, I cringe at the crowds at Christmas Tree shop, but some of their trinkets are worth it.  Sears had some lines, so did Barnes and Noble.  FYE was busier than I would have expected on a school day.  No need to go to Boscovs today, but we did stop at Macy's and Macy's is so-so.

I like Colonie Center.  Crossgates is a madhouse.  Rotterdam Mall is easy to get into if you park in the back.  

But I think we actually have all the shopping done.  Hope the family likes practical gifts

They are a gem, but their prices are high

Colonie Center is far more superior than any of the malls. MC is correct about crossgates....it's just too big! And Rotterdam is just a convenience.

Bumble, I like JC Penney's though, but not enough that I'll shop there at Christmas rush.

Colonie thrives I'm sure because of Sears and Boscovs, probably Barnes and Noble too.  They have Macy's which is nice, but Macy's is more for the upper echelon; I get things at Macy's if I can get a good sale.

Hey, I was wrong, my shopping wasn't yet done.  I forgot the socks and underwear and gloves.  Just went over to Walmart, they had lots of registers open, at least 10 lights on, but guess what, only three had customers, it was in and out in a flash

It doesn't really surprise me that the rotterdam walmart is slow. It is sandwiched between 2 super centers. The one in albany and the one in glenville. Not to mention that we are in the middle of a recession that is spiraling downward FAST!

Internet/cellphones = demise of the mall

Mr.Bernake saw this coming and 'let it' unwind.....ATM cards(no cash), Internet(no taxes), cellphones(no info control)

this is a hotbed of change right now and the closet is wide open......ask the kids in middle school how they count $$.....they will say
show me the computer with the internet and my ATM card.....they dont care if its dollars/walnuts/nickels/units etc.......

this is a shake down of momentous proportions to change the system, because we HAVE TOO.......

Walmart must be doing really really bad.

Husband is out shopping.  We going out next month to buy a new freezer, ours finally kicked the bucket.  Anyway, because of that, we can't buy too much ahead of time.  So here it is Dec 23 and he's out to buy a Friendly's Jubilee Roll, probably the most popular desert for Christmas.  Hannaford is out, so is Price Chopper.  So I tried calling Walmart, the supercenter in Glenville, to inquire if they carry them.  You call and when they pass you off to the other department you hear a phone ringing.  And ringing.  And ringing.  And ringing.  The switchboard person comes back on and you ask again.  Five minutes later she's back, she says she'll page someone.  Five minutes, no one picks up.   Pathetic

I tried calling the one in Colonie, what, that store that is the largest in the country.  Again, I'm on hold for about five minutes.  I called back, and I told her no one is acknowledging this call, and told her it's the same thing when I called Glenville, and obviously sounding annoyed, like please is someone going to answer, do they have anyone working, is that good customer service and she replied that with this economy they are cutting hours.

Hubby has the kids shopping with him (I can wrap, yippee), which gives me time and he took the little ones for lunch....because I'm on the phone so long.  So Price Chopper in Glen & Nisky are out, I don't like their menu system on the phone, but at least they get a human to the phone quickly.  And Hannaford, had a short wait callign Glenville, but the woman came back on the phone once to say,something about knowing who I'm waiting for, she didn't want me to think my call was forgotten, and that could not have been more than a minute.  Another moment someone cam on the phone.  The guy said he would check but to be patient because sometimes customers interrupt them on the way back to the phone, (guess the should carry cell phones).  Called Nisky too, immediate response. they are out of it, the guy there said Jubilee Roll flies off the shelves  

This week must be the busiest.  Walmart must be doing really bad if they don't have employees working this week.

As my husband has said, they are a necessary evil.  Yes, we shop there and they have some good prices on some things.  Walmart makes you feel like you are in an employee-less store, if there was such a thing.  Oh my, I hope I don't give anyone ideas.  Could you imagine calling and talking to a computer, and in the store all self serve check outs, and then if you need to find something you go to some phone you pick up in the aisle and talk to a computer.  Oh perish the thought.  

It's just like I called Social security the other day for my mom, I wasted an hour online trying to look up what she wanted to know, and when I called you get this computer voice which doesn't always understand what you are saying.  Get this, so I start speaking "Agent agent agent agent agent agent" and finally the computer voice says something like "oh, you'd like to talk to an agent, I'll connect you, but first, can you tell me......" you try to answer and then the computer voice again says "I didn't understand...."   Of course I keep repeating agent again, finally a human, and in two minutes we have the answer.  This technology replacing humans is terrible.  Oh, I'm getting off track here, let's leave technology for a different thread.  

By the way, while typing I called the Clifton Park Walmart.  Not too long of a wait on the phone.  But guess what!  Walmart does not carry Jubilee Roll!   How could they not?  That's terrible.  

I had to go to the Wal-Mart on Altamont Ave. for a table cloth today. (I forgot that I needed one more) Traffic was very heavy and I did notice that the liquor stores were packed as well as Price Chopper and Gabriels. Parking in the Hannaford Plaza was full so I assumed Wal-Mart would be busy. I was surprised that they only had 4 registers open and there was only one person cashing out at each register.

I also went to Dunkin Donuts drive-thru this morning, and the cars were lined up around the building. I went to Boscia's for our holiday cheer, and there was no place to park. That is usual for Boscia's around this time of the year.

I'm all done shopping for anything now. So now it is prep time. I wish everyone a very Healthy and Happy Merry Christmas!

Well, Michael went to Friendly's and got one of those.  OMG, it was $7.49.  Shocking price.  They are only $4.99 at Hannaford and I think Price Chopper also!  Thank goodness, I was really getting worried.

But he forgot to go to Hannaford to pick up the roast!   So he's off there now, I wonder if he will be in and out quick?  NOT.  We placed the order the other day and they do just a good job of doing the meat the way you want it.
