I know McGarry.  He's a nice enough chap.  Seems to have good values and conservative beliefs.
So long as he can remain independent, I could support his appointment.  If he isn't appointed,
he would make an excellent Republican Party Rotterdam Town Chairman

alleykat,

I believe that both Michael and Brian conducted themselves with dignity during the campaign and showed
respect for their opponents.  Neither of these men attacked their opponents verbally or in mass mailings.
The candidates of the two major parties and/or their handlers engaged in the mudslinging that has
unfortunately become commonplace in Rotterdam politics.

Elections should be about the debate of ideas between candidates, all of who want to serve.  There is no
place for personal attacks.

That is what was meant by my comment.  O'Connor or McGarry can restore civility to local politics.  Of
course, I may be biased in my assessment.

Yes BL I have great faith in BM.  He showed true dignity when he chose to stand with Franny when he was under attack by Gerard Parisi.  You must remember though that it was the Republicans who threw the first insults.  They are known for that stuff.  Unfortunately the Demos will retaliate in kind.
All must remember that Franny was constantly being attacked but he withstood it.  I was a republican but left the party because of their thuggery for the past five-six years.

Godlewski seems to be a gentleman as does young Martin.  Franny put in my pool so I have known him in business and out and he has always been respectful to all.  Hopefully DiLeva will also follow suit.

Merry Christmas Brad Littlefield and all who are out there.

Regarding BL's comment that either man (MO or BM) would bring dignity to the office.  What I'm wondering is did you think ST and his gang didn't bring dignity to the office or do you think Franny DelGallo and his gang will not bring dignity to the office?   I'm curious to know why you would make that comment.

BM appears to be well known, liked and respected in town. He clearly has a strong conservative ideology that he can bring to the table. He is probably the most conservative of them all. And BM has a gentleman like persuasive passionate personality that just may be the best fit. And possibly a stepping stone to the supervisor's seat. IMHO

It's my understanding that the endorsed Rep candidates that lost, did not want to be appointed to the DellaVilla seat with the exception of Mike O'Connor.  I know that Mary Barrie felt that the voters rejected her and she didn't want to be forced on them.  The Committee was supportive of Gerard Parisi and he should be put into the position.  Like him or not, he has experience with Rotterdam issues, he may actually put aside the bad blood from the election cycle and be able to work with the new members of the TB very well.

Rotterdam Republicans need to find a new town party chair and get some active members.

huskyhowls,

You have got to be kidding.  Parisi was the main reason that the Rotterdam Town Board went from a Republican supermajority to a
Democrat supermajority.

It began with his statements to the media re: his decision not to endorse Mertz for reelection to his personal attacks on Mr. Del Gallo.

And, in the process, Parisi destroyed the political careers of several incumbant Republicans.

Parisi as the town party chair makes the announcements and gets quoted in the newspaper.  Interviewing committees make the recommendations.  It wasn't just his decision.

We don't have a Democrat supermajority.  We will now have one appointed Republican, two Conservatives and two Democrats.  Fran is not a Democrat.  He is a Conservative.  I'm looking forward to him being conservative and frugal with my tax dollars and keeping the size of town government small.   I'm also expecting the Golub expansion to be approved and we keep that tax base stable for Schalmont Schools.  Golub has been through enough hoops.  It's time to let them play.

HH Trust me when I say this:  Gerard Parisi is not and will not be an accepted or embraced member of the New Reform Rotterdam Town Board.  It will be the last political appointment by the Rotterdam Republican Committee for many years to come should this happen.  It will be a disasterous political move ranking right up there with the appointment of Mr Surprise as the Town Assessor and we all know what that appointment did to the Tomassone Administration.

At least that is the talk at the Sr Center.

Time will tell Peepers.  It may mean that he serves until election season and maybe someone else will be supported by the Committee to run.  Like I said, we need active members.  What we really have had are just names on petitions.

I sure do agree with you on the Surprise factor in Tommasone's Administration.  I sincerely hope that Frank et al. will be able to get him out the door without a big payoff of his contract.  That would just be adding insult to injury.  He is NOT what this town needs to have on our payroll.  I would be glad to help him pack!

Former Rotterdam Republican Town Committee Chair Gerard Parisi has been recommended by the Republican Committee members to fill the vacant seat on the Rotterdam Town Board created by the resignation of Micheal Della Villa on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009.

"The executive committee had interviewed several individuals to potentially fill the vacant seat, including myself, but overwhelmingly felt that Mr. Parisi has the right experience and knowledge to sit as the lone Republican on the Town Board," according to a letter from Rotterdam Republican Town Committee Chair Attilio Tebano. The letter also stated that the committe feels that a large amount of false information was asserted against the Republican candidates in the 2009 election and the prior Republican adminsration in regards to the Rotterdam IDA and accuasations about raising taxes and that Parisi is knowledgable in these areas to address any false accusations. "Mr. Parisi has the first-hand knowledge and background to be able to quickly and honestly address these comments and any further false assertions. He will also work diligently to do what is right for the town and its future," according to Tebano's letter.

The committee unanimously carried support of recommending Parisi to fill the vacant seat with a vote of 29-0, according to the letter.

During the 2009 election, in a letter to Democratic Committee Chair Bill Cooke, Parisi stated that the Democrat town supervisor candidate, Frank Del Gallo, was illiterate, according to anonymous sources. "Several people have claimed/alleged that he may not be able to read or write," wrote Parisi in an Oct. 12 letter to Cooke. "The town is a complex operation. I hope this is not the case."

Cooke responded in a letter that in light of comments from Parisi that the Democratic candidates would not debate during the election.

Since the election, Del Gallo and his running mates have been elected to take the place of Republican Town Supervisor Steve Tommasone and Republican Town board councilmen Joseph Signore, John Mertz who ran under the banner of the No New tax Party, and Stanley Marchinkowski, who ran as a member of the Independence party. Democrats Matthew Martin, Nicola DiLeva and Robert Godlewski will take their seats on Jan. 1.

On Dec. 30, the sitting town board will hold a meeting to decide who will take the place of Della Villa.
