SCHENECTADY -- A city man wanted for an alleged parole violation scaled the fence of a bridge over I-890 and tumbled down an embankment, injuring his leg in a bid to elude capture, city police said today. The unidentified man's failed getaway bid earlier this afternoon came only moments after he was stopped in a car by officers on patrol on the Hulett Street bridge. A search of the car turned up a handgun, police said. The incident prompted the Schenectady school district to lock down four schools for about 30 minutes just after 2 p.m.: Mont Pleasant Middle School, the Career Center at Steinmetz, King Magnet School and Academy of Culture and Communication at Pleasant Valley Elementary School, district spokeswoman Karen Corona said.
State Police and U.S. Marshals assisted in the pursuit.
