That's what they all say when they are negotiating for a new contract. Hey, don't blame the teachers. They are just taking their cues from their union leaders. If the teacher wants to 'teach', they can't cause their union leaders tell them what to do and say. Screw the taxpayers! Ain't unions grand?

I agree with BT--contact the school board--call Gary. Although I do believe in unions for lots of reasons, I have always felt ambivalent about teachers unions (I am a teacher by trade) and nurses unions. Under no circumstances should the kids get lost in the shuffle. Yup call Gary--
Well I don't know for sure what he can do but he has kids in the district so his perspective might be helpful. If you have kids in the district, why not ask their teacher for some written info re: the issue. I would attempt it but would look disingenuous because none of my children went in the district. Look we don't know, maybe the teachers are correct. It's just hard to stomach somebody complaining about "raises" right now when everyone has taken a cut or lost their job and taxes are out of control. The paper did sound like the teachers have been waiting a long time for resolution on this issue. Gary's perspecitive might be interesting since he is on the board and his kids in the district. Usually parents will side with the board...because who wants their kid getting sc**wed with a bad grade from a teacher who know you were b**ching about their increase.
I think the no child left behind standardized tests are a freakin' waste of time.....learning is learning testing out is testing out.....teach the kids to learn, stop stamping them like cattle.....
BTW,,,,I am a non-union nurse.....and if national healthcare goes through,,,,,guess who you'll be paying out the butt for......yup---me.......I cant afford you and you cant afford me......
but what about a lotto game for healthcare,,,,,it's done just wonders for edumacation...what a foundation for learning.....
maybe they purchased homes they really couldn't afford.....and their taxes are going up......the cost of private schools to the taxes paid to public schools around here.....it's almost a wash......JMHO

the teachers can't get the young adult children to pass a test that needs 37 correct answers out of 100 just to pass and you want you want both groups to work on learning....
put a standard in place for to take the pay leverage out of the equation and learning will follow
people with at least 5 years of higher education can't teach children to meet min standards set by this state!

I don't like the arrogance of some educators. I also don't like the arrogance of some parents.
Some teachers don't do their job. Not well anyway. And some parents are too busy with their own lives, or just plain don't give a damn, to take a part in their kids education. School appears to have become the 'babysitter' and the 'moral compass' for some of these kids. School has become, sometimes unjustifiably' the 'blaming field', in some cases.
Kids need specified directions. And it will either come from the school system or the parents. Personally, and the way society is today,it takes both. Parents should be watching every single move that comes out of their school system. They need to speak up right from the get go.
For those parents who choose not to get involved, then they have no room to complain about their kids school system.
It's a two edge sword....some kids and parents don't give a damn and the teachers today are from the hippy generation. So there ya have it.

our school district budgets are about 4 times the base town budget - this is an area to make a difference
maybe the Dems will close the two schools and join them to the schdy city schools in a start to create a county wide school district - -look we are saving money!!!
why else would you want a school principal on the town board?

It would take the resurrection of a 'Hoffa for the taxpayers union'.....ya know like the Hatfields and the McCoys....after this national healthcare issue.....they are next on the chopping block of sorts....pay attention to the rhetoric that will come up......there are more folks like Raucci in the workings of this machine.....I think it needs a new carburator......
again, ask why the legislators aren't facing the insurance companies and their regulations, they are a bunch of edumacated millionaire lawyer types and all they are doing is tossing out a scapegoat of sorts.....

Ah BT stop blaming the hippie generation. It was a good movement. I am a teacher and chose not to send my kids to school in Rotterdam. That being said, and I was lucky to be able to send them to private school, I was able to ride shot gun on what went on in their school. But I still needed to rely on Mohonasen for things like speech therapy, busing etc. In today's world a parent needs to be a partner in their kids education. That doesn't mean they need to be a helicopter parent when they get to college but certainly prior to that. BTW--the teacher's union never did anything for me. I hated joining it. And by btw the hippie generation brings a LOT to a classroom. Things these teachers and administrators today are missing. Oliver Robinson didn't even use good grammar as I recall in my dealings with him. And he was totally oblivious to what else was going on in the world.

It's always generational and traditional......that being said,,,,the choice statement of being lucky to be able to send you kids to a private school is poor.....it was a choice you made and a choice you worked for,,,take credit,,,,,those 'poor folks' you help in the city dont need luck they need better choice making skills.....
I was sad when President Obama said he was lucky to make it where he is.....that is a sorry statement for anyone....he should show how he worked for it.....and be a proud example....
I dont know about anyone else, luck exists, but to rely on it and use it to take credit for what one has chosen to do also means not taking responsiblity if something goes wrong.....
look at those 'poor folks' lining up week after week for lotto tickets and scratch offs to garner some of that luck......
