ROTTERDAM -- New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) field officers were seen examining unidentified materials Wednesday on land owned by the Town of Rotterdam, two town employees told CBS 6.
The materials were contained in what appeared to be chemical drums, one of the witnesses said, but it was unclear whether the drums had been unearthed at the site or used for containment by the DEC.
The site is located between the town parks department building and sewage treatment facility on West Campbell Road, near Rotterdam Square Mall.
A DEC spokesman confirmed an investigation, but said he would have to speak to the field officer in charge before providing specifics.
A receptionist in the Rotterdam town supervisor's office said she would have the appropriate person return a CBS 6 phone call.

Well my first question is: What Councilmember chairs the Public Works and Highway departments? My guess is there are half a dozen employees who drive around in town vehicles all day long, pass or stop at that site on a daily basis and nobody realizes there is a dumping problem? Are you kidding me? And Steve's response is "its an election year gotcha." Not the kind of leadership the residents want there Steverino.
If someone isn't doing the job...FIRE them tommorrow Steve. This is a definate dereliction of duties. Maybe spending less time at Stewarts on Burdeck and more focus on woking for the BIG money they are being paid. Dontcha think? Hey Steve, on another note, layoff the whistleblower Dude. Let's put aside the idea that people were illegally dumping. The word 'unearthed' was a red flag for me. There are barrels buried all over this county from the GE years. There clearly is not enough information to even begin to responsibly and intelligently 'guess' what it is or who did what. But I believe that all options should be investigated. And who ever is responsible, they should be held accountable.
And yes, I would expect Mary Barrie to look into it. That's the job we pay her to do.

maybe town employees were dumping there and being lazy. Now they got cought. Treated lumber. Mostly used to build decks, docks or anything around water....Another town cover up. Nice job. When in doubt blame election time
Yeah, obviously the supervisor knows about this and is covering it up because he drives around on patrol 24/7 going down by the sewer plant. Oh, wait, that is the job of the RPD. Well, they hadn't heard about Jimmy Constantino touching girls in the school (only the entire universe knew) for 30 years, so why would they know about this?

GB--I was one of the biggest opponents of Jimmy Constantino back in those days. But I never heard he was bothering girls until the suit came out. Do you mean folks in this community knew and then neither did or say anthing???? That astounds me. I thought there was only one incident. That is ahuge indictment against RPD if that is true.
