I have mixed feelings on this issue. It appears that mcgarry is not partaking in this debate because of what the reps said about fdg. Mcgarry states it wasn't right. As admirable as that may seem, and don't get me wrong, it is......It wasn't mcgarry who made these statements. Although he can comment on them, they are not his statements to claim. The rep party owns them.

On the flip side...the statements the reps did make about fdg, were and are in fact true. I know, in this politically correct world that we now live in, stating ones level of intelligence or education is considered taboo. But these statements, I believe were just questioning and supporting the qualifications of this candidate who is running for the highest office in a town. Supervisor.

Should it be a concern? Of course it should. Just the fact alone, that fdg did not apply for permits, to 14 added structures on his property, hence having the luxury of only paying half of his assessed value for over a decade, leaves reason to question his understanding of the government system. Did he not know? If he didn't understand, is ignorance of the law acceptable? Or did he believe that it was the assessor's responsibility?

I guess if I were Bill Cook, I would shelter fdg and the rest of the dem candidates from any open debates as well. Having a meet the candidates night, in a controlled setting, put on solely by the dems, is a much safer and controlled venue where these issues can be avoided and not addressed. IMHO

Well when you have nothing to be ashamed of, you haven't misbehaved, and you have nothing to hide, you show up to the dance. If you have a problem with the Republicans, you go out and BEAT them, you don't hold it against the League, or the public at large who wants to hear you speak. That is my opinion. I think this victim game is being played a bit too far in this case. That is the problem with paying the victim, it only gets you so far because when you wear it out, you pushed it too far.

BT ~ I am not voting for DelGallo ~ But your position that he should have been paying more taxes on his property is misleading.  Why?  Because it in fact is the assessor and the town that determines what people pay in property taxes.  Many properties in the town were under-assessed and saw large increases (for example the recent increase on a farmer's property in western part of Rotterdam)

I also take umbrage with your reliance on a formal education to be able to run the town ~ after all ~ don't we have many employees to handle 99% of these issues.  Remember, the Supervisor's position is only part-time.

GB ~ your Chairman and Supervisor are both lightweights that are trying to bully people ~ voters won't like it.  As for beating them ~ isn't that already happening?

Republicans ~ no leadership.

Misleading? Someone is a contractor...that can not install a pool without a legal permit from that municipality. This same contractor build FOURTEEN additions to his property and never paid taxes on them. What is your point?

The old farm property was properly assessed at the residential rate not under assessed. The assessor exercised an option which was never used b4 to allow the property to be taxed both part residential and mostly commercial which resulted in a big jump in the property tax.

If it wasn't zoned commercial when they did the assessment, than I don't think it should have been taxed commercial. If it was already zoned commercial...than I can understand the hike. Or did they change zoning to justify the tax hike?

Brian McGarry better rethink not participating. I will check on this. He must attend the only debate.

Who cares what lies the REPS spread? This is an old political trick talk about everything-the pond-degrees-other people's taxes-except the fact that you have failed to lead. Let's debate the "job" Mr. Surprise has done? lol.

Brian McGarry is a COWARD if he does not attend.  Want to be brave?  Go and debate the issues.

By the way, Brad Littlefield wasn't mentioned in that article.  I have a feeling he will be there in full swing, as usual!

I'll also be participating.  I've always attended as a voter in the past and look forward to a discussion of the issues.

Good for you, Mike. If someone has an issue with another candidate, don't take it out by boycotting democracy. Imagine if Bush or Kerry, or Obama or Mccain had boycotted a debate because the other candidates party was"throwing mud???" It in not playing to the effect you think, you are running defense for a bad idea. If you feel there are mis-truths, you go to the debate and you refute them. If you are not afraid to. You don't make your case by hiding in the bathroom and refusing to come out... duh.

I personally feel cheated as a voter and would have loved to see all the candidates debate.

Brad and Michael, you should sincerely encourage McGarry to debate this evening.  I, and several people I have talked to, consider this to be a Grade-A, 100% cop-out.
