ROFL.

If you think Rotterdam is "small town" living, you really need to get out beyond the Rotterdam town line a little more.  I grew up around small towns and I assure you, Rotterdam does not come close to it.  Small town living is where you help your neighbor because you actually want to, not because you feel obligated to or think you will get something out of it.  It is where kids play without worrying about "Old Mr. Jones" coming out and yelling at them for walking on his lawn.  It is where folks wave and say hi, even if they are rushing from this or that function.  It is where little Jimmy doesn't have to worry about his neighbor little Timmy smacking him and then running to his mommy when he gets smacked back.
I don't know where you live, but let me assure you that I live in an area where people do talk to each other, say 'hi' and help one another out. Time is the issue!
And if it really wasn't small town living, people would not be voting for eunie cause 'they know her'. DUH!

And Vaeur couldn't have said it any better.........

I don't think that's small town living, i think that's time travel.

Right, to your "own".  Meaning those of you that have lived here for your whole life.  Us "outsiders" are never fully accepted into the community.  Preference goes to the original locals.

As an FYI.. i've lived in Rotterdam for one week today..

So far..

THe first time mowing my lawn, my nextdoor neighbor came outside and said "i don't wanna give you advice but," turns out i was 1.. cutting my grass way to short (first lawn mower, apparently your susposed to adjust the wheels, lol) and he helped me fix that. .then he said.. you know, it's going to take ALOT of bags to do that, and he pulled his trailer up next to my house, had me dump the bags of grass in there, and took it to the dump for me "i'm retired, i don't have much more to do" .... Very Very nice of him

The person across the street offered to let me use there garbage can "todays collection day" so i could toss my stuff until i get a can, but i got a can from county waste.  She also brought over a house warming gift.

person two doors down i bumped into and she gave me a big hug and said "welcome to the neighborhood!"

One of the local moms approached my wife who was going for a walk w/ our baby and asked if she was new and if they could walk their kids together!

There are very very few people in this town that get 'special' treatment. They are the same old, same old. That will just continue IF fdg and crew get elected.

As far as your average, regular residents.........I have always found them to be very nice and very helpful. The issue AGAIN....boils down to 'time'.

GB and Vaedur--GB this person just MOVED here and you already are correcting someone's writing. Way to get somebody to vote for you.  You are so declasse. (don't know how to add the accent marks)

Vaedur this is exactly the kind of thing you should NOT expect from Rotterdam residents. Most of us are just cynics from living here so long.  Welcome to town.

Under 200K there is hardly anything on the market that's remotely worth it.. the housing situation here isn't as bad as people think.  Houses in the 150k-175k go off the market quicker then you can imagine if they are worth it.  heck, the house i bought had 4 bidders the first week.  *i watched this market for a year + looking for the right house*  These houses that stay for sale are houses that need some heavy work and are overpriced.  I've seen tons of people overvalue there homes, thinking it's years past.. they are listing there homes, hoping to get lucky, and not coming down..

There are still many wonderful people in this town and County. Welcome abroad Vaedur.

Another great time to meet people is when raking leaves or plowing snow. Most neighbors care but every neighborhood has one bad apple. Like every blog.

I am not running for anything, but am being a scorch. Ultra liberals usually don't have a sense of humor. And if Vadeur went to public school, he has the spelling and grammar impediments as I. It takes people correcting you to fix those over time. So relax Cal, you are scaring people. When they see you being that way they foresee inquisitions, people's courts, reeducation camps, speech laws, political dissenters arrested in the middle of the night and all the things you yourself profess to hate about the Third Reich. So enough of the "hate" accusations" and attempting to declare people you have never met mentally unfit. Those are the things totalitarians do. No government will ever protect you if you give it too much power; it will fill up with people who think like you and grow more monolithic and more dangerous to the notion of a truly free people.

I figured your people have been in the USA long enough to understand freedom of speech, and diversity of opinion, but I often find it is not the case with some immigrants and children (not ALL of them) of immigrants. The old submissiveness to totalitarian ways ware still embedded in their fiber. If you are more than third generation American, then there is no reason for you to fall back on the crutch of granting such power to the institutions of government, police, church or the modern witches of political correctness. We hope that is not the case with you...It can be very frightening to think that people will be jailed for their thoughts and speech, but this is where we are headed in Obama's America.
