Saw the cop tear out of Hannaford parking lot (there resting spot) take right onto Altamont.  Saw another car coming down Altamont, as we continued on with our dog walk, heard another police car.  Sounded like they stopped on Altamont in the vicinity of the gym or the adult store or the concrete business.  Then it sounded like a fire truck in direction of Altamont, but our son did not hear Carmen alarm

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

I don't know what happened last night, but there is clearly an increased presence of cops in the walmart/coldbrook area. I see them and people who live in the area have seen and said the same.

Yes it is safe and quaint. I know many people who live there. However, I still don't know how to get in and out of the place. It's like a freakin' maze!

I think Walmart is the only issue for safety.

After house hunting for 3 months i "just" learned it, lol..   Sorry this scared me a bit, I'm about 3 weeks from living there..

There is a "working" girl on my corner on upper chrisler now, so it couldn't be worse... my downstairs neighbor said to her "this is a family neighborhood, can you take it to another corner" LOL  i told her to be careful saying things like that. I'm babbling, just can't wait to move.

Isn't Chrisler the 'new old City of Schenectady'? Heroin Alley?

When i first moved here, our neighbors were all old Italians for the most part, sure it wasn't great but the rest of us could keep the bad apples in check..

..now it's just bad..bad..bad..bad...

I think about packing everything up and moving to a hotel for a few weeks, that's how bad it is getting.

It is getting bad.  I live over on Caldicott Rd and it is still quiet, but you get transient traffic from Walmart.  The sad thing is, Rotterdam is/was a proud decent community, but
Schenectady is moving in.  It is making the move up north to Clifton Park and beyond much more attractive for this young family.

BTW, I walk my dog around my neighborhood and coldbrook almost every night so I do see what is going on.  Coldbrook has good and then some trash.  It is the nature of either
someone buying an estate sale house, or a house handed down to children that really never made much of themselves but now own their parent's house.  I don't see many new,
decent families moving in.  It is really the same way where I live too, but there are still more of the older folks left.

On the bright side, the city isn't doing much about anything..  this house cleaning is more sweeping under the rug...

Maybe their isn't enough left of that in today's politically correct society?  If someone's house is trashed with crap all over the place and there is there is no evidence of
"Pride of Ownership", well, then sorry, it is pretty indicative that the people living there are not going to help the town much less contribute to a decent society.  You see people that
hang around all day/night-these are not working people.  And, yeah, you can call it what you want, but it is foolish to not be able to see what is happening.

The more you are out and about, the more evident it becomes.

I agree with sclark and I don't think it is being judgmental in the sense you are taking it. There are families that buy homes, not just in rotterdam, but anywhere, who do not take pride in their property (investment).

Let's leave rotterdam for a minute and think of driving through guilderland, clifton park, amsterdam, vorheesville and other areas. There are some very well kept up properties in all of those areas, but one can certainly tell the areas that don't look so nice. Be it that they just plain don't give a damn or there are financial or medical conditions that have created the unkept appearance....it would not be the area I would choose to purchase a home or raise my family in.

We all gravitate to like minded people. I for one want to live and raise my family in a neighborhood (that I could afford) where people take pride in their property and in their neighborhood. And of course safety is also a key issue.

So I do agree with sclark on this one.
