At this time, and until I hear more about this, I would not support a single assessing system for the entire county. Our taxes are going to continually go up. Between the cut in the star program, and politicians who spend our money like drunken sailors, it's a given!

Consolidating this would not cure the problem of people dissatisfied with their assessments. Now, how the people grieve it and who they grieve it to....would be a different story.

And who would oversee this? The county legislatures? Now if we had a board of supervisors instead....I may think differently.

I honestly don't know how this would benefit anyone. But again, I would need to know more.

saves about 800k -1 mill a year. Instead of 6 departments you have one. A staff of professional assessors who coordinate with the real property office and no more of this business of having the schools on a separate page like they have in the city. everyone could get quarterly tax payments, everyone could mail in the checks to one address, each town clerk could receive payments. don't need a "receiver of tax" A grievance board that holds hearings in each community and is large enough to handle it. Members of the clergy on that board, not people like Maddona Chiccone or whatever her name is who castigates the taxpayers.

Also for those folks whose property is half in the city, half in the town, there would be simplified measures. There would be one uniform fair system. You own 6 properties? how about one bill with it all broken down sent to the mailing address for John Smith or whatever your name is. All due on the same date, quarterly. So instead of owning 10 grand today you owe 2500 per qaurter and you needn't skip buying groceries this month.

And yes a board of supervisors would be ideal too. The entire system of how we do things in the geographically smallest county on the state should change to a more businesslike and streamlined system. No one has the guts to second it. Anything that is too common sense and reeks of modern practice is not stomached by the politicians. We have a "yesterday" complex in our government.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

This is another reason why we needed Joe S to stay at the County level. Of course it makes sense-that's why it will never pass here.

Each jurisdiction needs it's own assessment office to hire people and dispense favors? What happened in the City was a complete disgrace. The assessor and Lady Madonna should have both been fired.

BT is right about returning to the Board of Supervisors-there was alot of talk about it last year and than nothing. If nothing else it removes 15 "public servants" who's only concern is re-election and blaming State mandates for their failure to budget.
