We saw this magnificent, dog like animal along our tree line in our back yard about 6pm tonight. It's fur was thick and light grey, and his tail slightly down. My husband and I happened to be looking out of our kitchen window when we saw it. At first we thought it was our german shepherd dog. That's how big it appeared. When we realized it wasn't, my husband flew out the door to bring our dog in. (she was outside at the time)

We have never heard coyotes or coy-dogs howling at night. We live on RT7 by Schalmont. Any other sightings, suggestions or opinions on this? We have never seen one before.

There are more coyotes around Rotterdam than people realize. I've seen coyotes along the power line near where Guilderland Ave crosses the Thruway.

Will they go after my dog? (I know my dog would go after it) Or do they go after people? And I thought that they came out only at night. (dark)

Coyotes usually come out at night but if they're pushed out of their day time hide out that's when you see them. I have seen coyotes that weigh as much as a German Shepard and if there are a pair of coyotes with young they will come after a dog if they feel their young is threatened. Coyotes will hunt and eat cats and small dogs in the winter when food is scarce and a few cats around my area have been killed by them.  

There's a small pack in Central Park, near the soccer fields too.

Harmless, unless provoked or very hungry.

Coyotes are frequently seen and heard on my rear yard.  They have been as close to the house as about 100 feet.  In the summer they are brown in color.  Don't know if their coats change to gray in the fall.

There were a few that approached my Corgi last year.  My wife had to chase them off.  We lost a
cat to a pack when we lived in Burnt Hills.

I have heard that there have also been wolf sightings in the area.  Haven't seen any myself.

I know that almost everyone that we have talked to said that it is more than likely a coyote. It probably was.  But my husband and myself keep looking at each other and say "wolf". It was big, beautiful, smokey grey and very confident. It was definitely larger than our german shepherd. So now, my husband and I spend more time than usual at our kitchen window and we keep a camera right on the counter.

We may never see it again, but we are hoping that we do and can take a picture of it. We need to get a life!

There are many "wolves" with sheep clothing meandering around Rotterdam though. Especially this time of year.  Happy hunting for that elusive picture!
