I think they are having there tanks changed.. they run out of gas frequently, might not be able to keep up with the demand.

This happened to the one across the street i believe at one time too and they expanded.

The tanks are almost always steel.  They corrode in the ground and leaks develop.  Fuel leaks out and they sell less product than they receive.  When this happens, the NYSDEC knows they have a leak and the site becomes a remediation project.  Probably a tank leak that required replacement.

Most of the new tanks are made of fiber glass and have a 25 year life span and the state wants to replace all the old steel tanks.

There had been an article some time ago in the news paper and then there was a discussion here on the forum about the tanks there. This is the 2nd time there has been digging there. As for the store itself....the new owner doesn't keep nice house.....it's always
a mess.....certainly sloppy and not as nice as the previous owner.....we can only hope that it will turn out to be something nicer than
a quickie mart/NYS lotto crap hole.......
