The GE union used to run the city? Gee, they must have done a good job because Schenectady and it's people thrived. The schools were good, the streets were safe.
You are mixing apples and oranges here.
- GE Company (not the union) employed tens of thousands of people. Which in turn allowed everyone to prosper. No need for welfare like it is today. Taxes were low cause GE...the company....paid the bulk of them when they were still here.
- The union bosses ran the politicians. Just ask some of the retired folks.

Schenectady officials look at fight prevention Wednesday, September 9, 2009 By Michael Goot (Contact) Gazette Reporter
SCHENECTADY — Schenectady school officials are cooperating with police to determine how to prevent a repeat of a large fight that broke out following Friday’s home football opener. An estimated 100 people were involved in the fight that happened following Schenectady’s win over Albany. Police from multiple jurisdictions had to be called in to quell the disturbance. A total of five people were arrested. All have been charged with disorderly conduct violations. Two people were charged with more serious misdemeanors. A 16-year-old faces a second-degree riot charge, and a 22-year-old faces charges of resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. Superintendent Eric Ely said that the fight occurred off school grounds. There were no issues at the game itself, he said. “We don’t have any jurisdiction off property. We’ll discuss it with the Police Department. When criminals do criminal behavior off of school property, there’s not a whole lot you can do,” he said.....................>>>>...................>>>>.........................................http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2009/sep/09/0909_riots/
Is the assessment about the students or the Board of Education?
LOL! How about the dynamic administrators, Super Elys, HR Stricos and disinformation minister Karen Corona? Fire them all. They are dangerous to the taxpayers.
The Gazetto has run story after story but refuses to call it a gang riot. Like CBS-6 properly did. The solution according to the Gazetto editors is not a gang crackdown but ending night games.
Here's a real solution a new Mayor and new Superintedent that will tackle growing gang violence. Instead of pretending it doesn't exist?
