Palin Dodges Talk of Running for Governor Again

Monday, June 15, 2009 3:20 PM

By: Jim Meyers     Article Font Size

Alaska Gov. Sarah has fueled speculation that she'll seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2012 by declining to say — at least for now — whether she will run for re-election in Alaska next year.

Asked by CNN's Wolf Blitzer if she definitely plans to run for re-election, Palin said: "I'm not definitely going to do anything yet.

"What I'm trying to get done for Alaska right now is to get that Alaska [natural] gas line built. We need those energy sources flowing through North America. That's what my focus is. That and raising my family, doing those good things that we need done up there in Alaska. That's my focus."

Blitzer asked: "So, no decision yet on either 2010 or let alone 2012, is that right?

The former GOP vice presidential candidate responded: "No decision that I'd want to announce today."

Running for re-election would be "a move unlikely for someone seeking the White House," CNN observed.

According to the Los Angeles Times, "other Alaskan politicians are positioning themselves for a governor's bid should she drop out."

Asked by Blitzer for her thoughts on President Barack Obama, Palin said she thinks he is "growing government way too quickly."

Hard to blame Palin for abandoning her office

I take exception to the manner Gov. Palin has been treated publicly. Americans are losing any semblance of order in electing and preserving the integrity of the election system.
Gov. Palin’s church was arsoned. Gov. Palin paid a half-million dollars in court fees to defend herself from unsubstantiated, false and malicious slander. David Letterman piled on in what was a most vile and contemptuous treatment of Gov. Palin’s children.
We are also witnessing numerous threats on the life of President Obama. I did not vote for the man, nor does he often speak for me, but I pray no harm comes to him; only good fortune.
I worry Americans are so frustrated with our “representational” government and driven too much by the need for immediate gratification in all things; to such an extent voter representation is entirely dysfunctional.
Gov. Palin’s decision should be a warning to all of us. Democracy is evaporating with all the other “good” values representational government requires.

Palin’s Christian values leave out rape victims

Re the July 19 Viewpoint, “DiNicola used Palin to belittle Christians and their values”: Yes, the left is sexist but Sarah Palin proved she is worse by forcing women to pay for their rape kits when she was a mayor. They can cost thousands and combined with the fact that some states arrest you if you do not testify against rapist — what a nightmare.
First you must have rape kit, as in this society it’s the only way to prosecute. Then you find you are thrown in jail if you don’t testify; then you fi nd the sheriff at your door if you can’t pay for rape kits. Yes, some hospitals do arrest if you can’t pay.
If this is Christian, then God help us.

How does the writer know that she made rape victims pay for the "rape kits?" It sounds so facetious! That is like saying because there is an annual fee at the county farm to dispose of brush and lawn clippings "County legislator X ACTUALLY CHARGED RESIDENTS TO THROW OUT GRASS CLIPPINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" The left is so good at demagoguing every issue "this one is against the kids!" this one hates the elderly!" SARAH PALIN HATES RAPE VICTIMS!" Give me a break, lay off the liberal koolaid.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Palin’s conservative tenets right for America

Thanks to the Gazette for publishing Pamela Terlaak-Poot’s well-written article July 19. Sarah Palin is just the latest conservative to be destroyed financially by piling on frivolous suits that accommodating judges allow.
The left-leaning print and broadcast media would like you to believe that religion and family values are history in America. They highlight examples of human frailties to drive their message. It appears to be working in the short term, but long term, the American people will again realize that stripping our culture of its founding values will destroy us. The distortion of conservative views borders on the ridiculous.
A perfect [example] is legal immigration, a cornerstone of America. Illegal immigration is about to bankrupt California, yet it is not even discussed in the media as an issue. The position that the illegals are doing jobs Americans do not want is preposterous. In fact, they hurting American workers by suppressing their salaries.
America is the land of opportunity, and it is why there is such a desire to come here and why we need to control who does come here. We are the most generous country in the world when it comes to donations. We do give a helping hand, but many times the hand is bitten. There are people in this world who want to do us great harm. There is no way that understanding them more will help them like us more.
So what is the answer? Certainly a strong military, a consistent message to the rest of the world and an unapologetic deterrent to terrorism will help.

Today on WROW590 Steve Of Guilderland called in.  We all got stage names.

Steve said he saw on TV a group of Southerners standing in line waiting to purchase Sara Palin's book GOING ROGUE.  Today's discussion piggy backed yesterdays dialogue about Southerners doing their sisters & producing half wits which accounts for their view on race & voting for G Bush.

The Southerners standing in line for Palin's book were described by Steve as 'extras' from Deliverance & playing dueling ban goes (did I spell that right).  I found this humorous & hypocritical.

The 'white trash' standing in line were buying book with money they earned, not receipts of welfare or stimulus funds.  Many of the people who voted for O'Bama are on welfare looking for more handouts.  The intelligence of the two groups is impossible to calculate but which group is made up of moochers is obvious.

When poor, street people, illegal's, dead, the typical demographic of Democrat electorate is identified, racism & every other button pushing word comes out of the woodwork.

Most of the electorate, either side of the political coin are dim wits but one group actually works for living.

Palin angered by 'sexist' Newsweek cover

For the second time since Sarah Palin stepped into the national political spotlight, a photo of the former Republican vice-presidential candidate featured on the cover of Newsweek magazine is sparking controversy. Palin herself blasted the "out-of-context" cover as "sexist" on her Facebook page.

Originally published in the August 2009 issue of Runners World, the photo features the former Alaska governor in short runner's shorts. It was part of a multi-photograph slideshow that accompanied an article about Palin and her love for the sport titled, "I'm A Runner." In her Facebook post late last night, Palin took issue with Newsweek using a photo from an article about health and fitness to promote an analysis piece contemplating her relevance as a political figure:
"The choice of photo for the cover of this week's Newsweek is unfortunate. When it comes to Sarah Palin, this "news" magazine has relished focusing on the irrelevant rather than the relevant. The Runner's World magazine one-page profile for which this photo was taken was all about health and fitness -- a subject to which I am devoted and which is critically important to this nation. The out-of-context Newsweek approach is sexist and oh-so-expected by now. If anyone can learn anything from it: it shows why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, gender, or color of skin. The media will do anything to draw attention -- even if out of context.
The reaction to the Newsweek cover has predictably sparked outrage from conservative supporters of Palin and kudos from liberals who oppose her. CBN commentator David Brady called the cover "a new low" for the "biased" magazine, adding that Newsweek has a history of portraying liberal women as "heroes for the next generation," while portraying conservative women like Palin as "nuts and dopey." Meanwhile, documentary photographer Nina Berman hailed the cover as "brilliant" and "shrewd" for using a "propped photo where Palin is an obvious participant ... to show how far out she is willing to travel on the road of self promotion" while "shield[ing] themselves from what would have been the inevitable criticism if they had dolled her up themselves and posed her the same way."
The current cover flap isn't the first time Newsweek has generated controversy with a photograph of Palin. The October 13, 2008, issue featured an extreme close-up of Palin that seemed to be devoid of the high-tech retouching often employed by magazines. Conservatives claimed this highlighted some of Palin's supposed "flaws," like wrinkles around her eyes.
Newsweek Editor Jon Meacham told Yahoo! News that the photo choice was simply the "most interesting image available":
"We chose the most interesting image available to us to illustrate the theme of the cover, which is what we always try to do. We apply the same test to photographs of any public figure, male or female: does the image convey what we are saying? That is a gender-neutral standard."
