Swine flu case confirmed in Schenectady schools
Wednesday, May 27, 2009
By Michael Goot (Contact)
Gazette Reporter

SCHENECTADY — Schenectady school officials announced this afternoon that one confirmed case of swine flu has been discovered in the district.
Superintendent Eric Ely told parents in a letter that the New York State and Schenectady County Health departments have advised the district that the situation does not warrant school closure. Students can continue to come to school as long as they are not sick and do not have flu symptoms. These include fever of more than 100 degrees, cough, sore throat, runny nose or stuffy nose. Additional symptoms may be experienced with swine flu including muscle pain, fatigue, and sometimes vomiting or diarrhea.
The letter did not state in which building or grade level the case of H1N1 was found. To view the district notice click HERE.
Ely also said parents who think their child is getting the flu should not send him or her to school or other places like group child care, the mall, or sporting events where other people would be exposed to flu germs.
They also advised parents to teach their children to wash their hands with hot water for at least 20 seconds; use hand sanitizer or hand wipes with at least 60 percent alcohol; keep hands away from their face and avoid touching their mouth, nose or eyes; and cough or sneeze into a tissue or their sleeve............>>>>...........>>>>..............http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2009/may/27/0527_swineschool/

So I see that the Schenectady City School district is the ONLY school in the COUNTRY that will stay open even though there is a confirmed case of the swine flu.

And to add insult to injury....they aren't telling what school was infected!!

With the microscope they are under right now, one would have thought they would have taken the precaution and closed.

I thought the news (Capital News 9) confirmed that this was a high school student, but I'm not sure.

High school and the CDC no longer considers closing the school for 1case necessary.......
