Area jobless numbers grim, but better than state, federal

Almost all job sectors are shedding jobs, Ross said. The only areas seeing job increases are education and health services. Unemployment rates for the Capital Region counties for April were: Albany — 6.3 percent, down from 6.6 percent in March, up from 4.2 percent from April 2008. Fulton — 9.5 percent, down from 10.6 percent, up from 6.4 percent. Montgomery — 9.6 percent, down from 11 percent, up from 6.7 percent. Saratoga — 6.1 percent, down from 7 percent, up from 4.1 percent. Schenectady — 7 percent, down from 7.5 percent, up from 4.5 percent.
