Winedown landlord did disservice to restaurant

Re Kathleen Moore’s April 1 piece, “Winedown owner upset with tenants”: Numerous points in the one-sided and contradictory article were incorrect.
First, no staff members were ever hired “sight unseen,” including the chefs. During the past nine months, I was executive chef there. I’m a Culinary Institute of America alumnus, I’ve worked as a private chef for several celebrities and captains of industry, was food stylist for an Emmy Award- winning Food Network show, and have written for major national culinary and lifestyle magazines.
Second, the landlord, Mr. Reza Mahoutchian, did not “close down” or briefly shutter the restaurant because “he was not satisfied with the way his tenant was running it.” Rather, Mark Allen, one of the owners, unhappily decided to close because the non-negotiable rent of $4,600 per month (double the Capital Region average per square foot) currently proved to be detrimental to the Winedown’s long-term financial success.
However, Mr. Mahoutchian was correct in saying that the Winedown “had a special following.” In fact, The Gazette’s own Caroline Lee voted us her second-favorite fine-dining restaurant in 2008. And, tripadvisor.com  members still continue to place us No. 1 out of 204 restaurants in Schenectady.
Not too shabby, considering the “disorganization and lack of supervision” Mr. Mahoutchian stated he observed.

Once again the truth and what's printed in the Gazetto appear to be at odds.

$4,600 per month rent! So much for the alleged "disorganization". Anyone who's run any business knows it's best not to lock the door and sit in a car counting patrons that attempt to enter. Read it here first-another victory lap for the truth.

Thank God for the 'opinion's section' in the gazette and some informed people on this message board. Again..... the people speak. That is just so typical of the  media. They grab a story from 'anyone' and shoot from the hip.

This was an attempt by the horrible rag to twist reality to conform to their narrow world view. BT and Salami were right on this from Day One.

They purposely only ran the landlords views and many sheeple believed it. No prospering business locks out management and then sits in the car counting patrons. Now the truth is out and my initial report was correct.

nnnnoooooo......the chef told a different (true) story than the gazette initially reported after salami exposed it.

Metrograft is not directly involved in this one way or another. It was a landlord/tenant dispute- the tenant tried to get the rent lowered and couldn't. It's hilarious to see Krat cheer leaders led by the Gazetto rush to the landlords defense-without any facts.

6 weeks since Reza locked the door on the management and nothing is happening. So much for the quick turn around and return of quality. ROTFLMAO!!!

Only in this stunada County does the landlord lock out the management, lock out the CIA trained chef, stay in a car counting patrons who try and get in, and the MSM supports it! Then the chef tells the truth-which is never printed in the "news story".

Another complete embarrassment for the horrible Metrograft "planners" and the "renaissance" cheer leaders. If you can find any. Most are hiding under their desks with the phone unplugged. Another victory lap for the truth and this important forum. Read it here first-then read the hilarious news spin.
