City Democratic incumbents backed SCHENECTADY — All of the city Democratic incumbents have been endorsed for this year’s reelection campaign, Democratic city committee Chairman Richard Naylor said. The city committee met Saturday to endorse the candidates. They are: City Council members Gary McCarthy, Barbara Blanchard and Mark Blanchfield; county Legislators Philip Fields and Karen Johnson; and District Attorney Robert Carney. The committee also endorsed prospective county sheriff Dominick Dagostino, even though the police lieutenant has not been appointed to the vacant position and can’t take it until September, when he retires from the Rotterdam Police Department. The county Democratic committee is endorsing him as well; the city committee’s endorsement wasn’t necessary. “It’s not our jurisdiction,” Naylor said, “but the committee wanted to endorse him, so we did.” The committee’s City Dinner will be May 7 at the Ancient Order of Hibernians Hall. U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko will speak, as will Mayor Brian U. Stratton.
