Proctor's is still a pretty cool theater. It is one of the major reasons that downtown Schenectady has turned around from being a ghost town and is moving towards its former vitality --- now all we need is a Nordstrom's Department Store downtown. |

Downtown has been very poorly planned - not only that but it's been a loss of $50 million via Metroplex, but there is no return to the City taxpayers for their money. One theater, non-profit, sales tax exempt, empire zone exempt will never generate enough funds to make up for the increadible loss in revenue spent on it. Same goes for the over $100 million dollars in other tax-exempt properties downtown (another thread has Pat Z's analysis).
Sure, you can bring people to Proctors, but the City cannot keep homeowners or even get NEW homeowners to live in their City. People don't want to live here anymore. Residents are afraid of the growing crime and new homeowners would never buy in Schenectady - the taxes alone are another mortgage payment.
Truth is, the City has dug itself into a tax-exempt hole for which they have placed an impossible burden upon the homeowners. People are leaving, it's just that sad. |

SACC was doing just fine UNTIL the socialists started to take it over. Once they got their hands in this media pot......it went to pot!
Don't be fooled here. This is just a media power grab by the socialists that conveniently landed in the lap of Morris. Ya see, the liberals socialists are using taxpayer money to build these empires, like proctors and the tax exempt businesses. Hence, these empires will garner votes and lucrative campaign contributions for the liberal socialists to secure their empire. Couple this with their cheerleading gazette to help keep the electorate dumbed down.........and the socialists have it just about all wrapped up.
