SCHENECTADY Schenectady High School was in lock down mode for about an hour early this morning after a brawl that resulted in a half dozen students being arrested and charged with rioting, according to police and school officials.
The fight erupted shortly after 9 a.m. as students were changing class, prompting school officials to place the building into a lock down during the second period from 9:10 to 10:10 a.m., according to city schools spokeswoman Karen Corona. She said hall monitors and administrators immediately intervened and were able to quell the disturbance in the D wing in the northern end of the high school before police were called.
One student, who was not among those arrested, was taken to the hospital for treatment after he punched a window and cut his hand, police said.
Arrested were four 16-year-olds along with a student, 17, and one 18. All have been charged with rioting, a misdemeanor. The police investigation is ongoing and the students may face disciplinary action that could range from counseling to suspension. The students were scheduled to be arraigned in City Court.
A little normal, healthy, parental control/supervision/guidence might help.
