Re Feb. 21 article, “Obama to mayor: Spend on streets”: Before Mayor Stratton and the City Council spend all the stimulus money on prettying and refurbishing city streets and sidewalks, could they please remember that the north side of Schenectady, near Oneida, Zoller and Schenectady High schools, still have no sidewalks for children to walk on? I, along with many city residents, am tired of seeing cosmetic improvements within the city while the most basic infrastructure — sidewalks in this one area — are repeatedly overlooked or ignored. Children need to walk to school, both for exercise and socialization with others. We don’t need any more pressed cobblestone avenue or gateways over historic areas of the city. We just want a safe walkway so our children can walk to school.
