YES because he made it so the RICH RICH DRUG COMPANIES MAKE THE STUFF AND RIP US OFF> MEDICINE SHOULD BE FREE LIKE IN OLDEN DAYS OVER THERE> ENOUGH IS ENOUGH IF THE GOVT HAS TO TAKE IT OVER THEN TAKE IT ALREADY TAKE IT!
The united states still has the best medical system in the world. We have the best doctors, hospitals and MEDICINE than any other place on this planet.
Remember, we are also paying for all of the slugs and illegals who don't pay their own way. Sal should be happy about that? And we will make sure that Sal gets the best medical treatment possible when he goes in for his labodamy.

Best medical system bumble? Then why are we one of the unhealthiest nations? leading the way in obesity, heart disease, type II diabetes........
system needs a definite overhaul
and universal care is not the answer
people are self destructive, want things yesterday, and take very little responsibility for their actions
how about health insurance refunds for actually being healthy and chosing to live a healthy lifestyle..... Give people a real incentive to make healthier choices
I can take defensive driving and get 10% of my car insurance for 3 years. Why cant i get 10% off for not smoking....
entitlement programs are a drain on our economy, medicaid recipitients go to the Emergency room for a headaches or stomache ache (costing hundreds of dollars) because general MD will only care for so many medicaid patients since they loose money on them. those receiving medicaid, welfare should absolutely be drugged tested,
Unions have forced US companies to pay heatlhcare for people that retire at 48, 50, 55 etc , huge drain on state budgets also
illegals also take advantage or our open system adding more strain to the fragile system. People should not be denied care or turned away but imagine if hospitals could report people who dont belong in this country... (local police should also be able to enforce certain federal laws based on immigration
Big Pharma - has produced more drugs (i dont like calling what they make nowadays medicine) in recent years and in turn more conditions, diseases, and disorders that the only treatment for is lifelong prescription for their drugs. heart burn take this pill for the rest of your life, high cholesterol take this pill for the rest of your life, feeling sad take this for the rest of your life, penis feeling sad take this pill, kids are hyperactive (cause loaded on sugar and caffiene) get them medicated early, cant sleep take a pill, and on and on and on
Pharma needs more regulation they spend up to a billion dollars bringing a new drug to market concept-research-trials-marketing. So when that drug gets approved they want as many people addicted (prescribed) as possible.....
Biggest medical achievements in past 50+years in my opinion
polio vaccine antibiotics cancer awareness/screenings (early detection is the key and has saved more lives and money than anything else)
sorry for the long post but my Lunesta has me sleep typing, eating, driving, and is and causing strange but pleasently welcomed sexual and gambling urges.......
the fact that most of you even now what lunesta is or can recall the sideeffects because of the marketing is one of the big problems of our healthcare system
Only disagreement I have with the above article is blaming the unions for making the companies pay for health-care when a member retires early. Many of the early retirees were either forced or encouraged to take an early retirement so the company could hire someone who is younger, faster and will work cheaper than the older employee. Companies added health-care to the retirement package as a way of getting as many older employees to retire early as possible because who could live on the pensions that many companies pay and still be able to afford health-care payments too. Some unions do have to take the blame for holding a company hostage and forcing them to pay for the best health-care that money can buy like our legislatures get while working and when they retire on our dime. I do agree that the biggest drain on the system is the welfare and illegal immigrant population draining the health-care system when most have not contributed one dime into the program.
I know someone who moved here from Germany. She said that they have health care paid for by the government (taxpayers). If you don't work you are not entitled to any government program. They view it as since you are not contributing to the system, you can not reap any of it's benefits.
Joann - nobody likes freeloaders - especially those that choose not to even try and help themselves
shadow - Unions have there pros and cons - i only mentioned them because i remembered reading somewhere that some of the auto workers could retire at 48 with a full pension. so that means a company will have to pay for an additional 40+ years. doesnt sound like a sound business model
entitlement programs are their for those that need them to get through a tough time in life. There were not designed as a way of life for people. If some one looses a job, gets sick, escapes a bad marriage, family tragedy, ssubstance abuse problem whatever ... there are very few that would just turn their back on someone in need. the private sector, and individuals give what they can and when they can. I have donated tons of excess food in my pantry, old blankets, jackets, etc. and I am sure many others here have to. whether dropping a quarter into the salvation army pots or bringing a can of food to work for a food drive.
medicaid has tons of wasteful spending. $500+ to go the emergency room for an aspirin...
the question is how do you monitor and weed out all the fraud?
Social security and Medicare have not evolved with the times. SS started in the thirties when the life expentancy was around 58-60. medicare started i believe in the 1960's. when age expentancy was just over 67-68. Nowadays life expentacy is pushing 78-80. does anyone else see a problem brewing...
The SS and Medicare problem has been brewing for years and none in Congress would address the problem but they had no trouble stealing from the fund to feed their welfare programs. If Congress had left the money alone in the SS system to build up as it was designed to do there would not be a problem today. Aruba has the same policy as Germany does, anyone who can work does and some work for the government and receive health-care benefits and a pension. Those that are unable to work are taken care of by the same government and are given welfare and health-care. I have followed politics since 1961 and have come to realize that most of the failures[crisis's] of today fall square in the laps of our officials who we elected to Congress and that's one of the main reasons I support term limits for all political positions in government.

First, it isn't the fault of the 'medical system' that people are fat. That comes down to personal choice. Are you suggesting that we have a utopian society where everyone jogs and exercises daily? Where no one ever smokes, drinks or eats an ounce of fat again? Monitor time on computers and TV? Where children could possibly be taken away from their parents if their cholesterol is too high and the kids are 10lbs overweight? And who will be the plumb line and overseer of this? The doctors? The government? Be careful....you just may get what you wish for!
As far as early retirements with full benefits....that is ridiculous. That was the ONLY reason I was somewhat agreeable to the bailing out of some of these corporations. If they folded, what would happen to all of the 60, 70 and 80 something's pensions and health care? It would have been gone. These people worked for years and were promised these benefits and made life provisions based on it. Just THESE retirement benefits should have been bailed out.
This practice needs to stop with the next generation. And this should include the public sector right on up to our government officials. And life benefits need to be voided out of any union contract. IMHO

I never really thought of it that way ... but you're absolutely 100% right.
a utopia is impossible and would be extremely boring - nothing better than a greasy burger, ice cold beer, and sitting around in my underwear watching a game
people dont understand the word moderation anymore - the average soda has gone from an 8oz bottle to 20oz
I want self reliability, and self accountability, I want people to take responsibility. I want healthcare premiums based on actual health! (not talking about pre existing conditions) I shouldnt pay the same insurance that an overweight, smoker, with clogged arteries pays.
where is my discount for a living a healthy life? If i were a risky driver my insurance would be through the roof!
politicians have abused the system, and i agree with shadow on term limits. and shurada should be commended for his eight years and then moving on. I hope term limits are his real reason, and he hasnt simply given up.
By no means do i want more government telling me what i should eat or how to live my life. I should be able to chose my own health care plan, with the benifits that i want.
where is my discount for a living a healthy life? If i were a risky driver my insurance would be through the roof!
And next we will hear.....
'why should my tax dollar go for the life time care of a 2 year old that was born with a disability cause the mother smoked crack (or not) and will never be able to contribute to society?'
'why should my tax dollar go for that $100,000+ heart surgery on that 88 year old person who smoked (or not) who is not contributing to society and will now live to 100?'
'why should my tax dollar go for that teenager who was drinking and driving (or not) and now has brain damage for life?'
Ya see...this is what happens when the taxpayers are footing the bill.
And forget rewards for 'good behavior'. Just look at the honest, responsible gun owners. Their rights are being taken away a little at a time. No rewards for them now is there?
We really need to be very careful on what we invision and wish for.
