Thank you Papa.  However, it's clear that B Gage is the teacher's pet.

Papa, please review for us the lesson regarding the players in this race, not just the predicted victor.
Will the "favored one" be endorsed by all?

The lessons for the players in this race.......... There's only one horse in this race as far as I am concerned and I think I mentioned that a while back.  To reiterate, I can't see any reason why every party wouldn't endorse the best candidate for Sheriff- DAGOSTINO.
And again I fully expect the Republicans to follow suit after they conduct a thorough review of all candidate's qualifications and conduct interviews in the next couple weeks...

Do you see any other scenario?

Sal, I don't think they're crazy.  When they endorse DAGOSTINO, I think that will be a great first step and will be evidence of their Conservative ideals
and willingness to work to elect candidates with Conservative values like yourself!

The gazette is reporting that the dems have just endorsed Dom Dagostino for Buffardi's position. The conserv's have already endorsed him and he is now seeking the reps endorsement.

This is interesting since I heard in th papers that Joe Lizzardi was running as a republican. But it IS Izvestia so I wouldn't put much stock in what they say!

How about Carolina Lazzarri? Is she in any of the runnings? But ya know, these are all recycled politicians. Except for Viscusi(who I don't know), aren't there any other new names and faces with new ideas and new visions out there wanting to step up to the plate? I'm just questioning that if any of these 'recycles' get into office...NOTHING will change!!!

if Surhada ran for county again I imagine it wouldn't (because when he won he would stil be a minority) but if he runs for town where some people there might actually listen to some of his conservative ideas, maybe some things will. As far as the others who knows, but Surhada is the only one now in the running who has proved he will go against some status quo things. He votes against a lot of stuff that other republicans are scared to vote against because they will get lampooned for it by the special interest groups, so I think we have a chance to actually get some results on this thing. Mertz had some good views but watching things go down shows me that the other republicans didnt want to work with him and vice versa. I guess the well was poisoned to that extent

If Suhrada got elected to the town board, and he was allowed to go against the status quo, then it would just prove that it was 'personal' with Mertz. Mertz did NOTHING wrong. He did everything for the benefit of the taxpayers. Even if it ment going against the party and the special interest groups and the status quo.

Our town board has already shown that it can not work with anyone who thinks 'out of their box'. So how will Suhrada fit into that bunch? Don't get me wrong, I like Suhrada and think he also speaks his mind. What would be the difference? NONE!!!! Will we just be making a lateral move here?

If anyone disagrees with the town board they're a trouble maker. If a committee selected by the Town Board to help look into how to help solve some problem facing the town disagrees with what the Town Board wants to do, the committee get abolished. How did the committee seeking information an whether the Town Board gets a raise work out?

Suhrada does go against the status quo. But it is the 'county dems' status quo he goes against. Let's see him try to go up against the 'Rotterdam reps status quo'. He'll get the boot just like Mertzie did. And if he doesn't....people will cry fowl and the dems will be voted into control of Rotterdam in 4 years.

As far as Dagostino...he'll get Buffardi's position. I don't really know him. I just remember his questionable behavior at a few town board meetings regarding the proposed police commission. I won't go there since it is a dead issue....but I won't forget it!!

SCHENECTADY COUNTY
Sheriff hopeful gets party backing
Democratic panel picks Dagostino

BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter

Rotterdam Police Lt. Dominic Dagostino received the endorsement of the executive committee of the Schenectady County Democratic Party in his bid to become the county’s next sheriff.
The executive committee endorsed Dagostino, a Conservative, last Friday, said Chairman Brian Quail. “The committee arrived at the best choice,” he said.
Sheriff Harry Buffardi, a Democrat midway through his third four-year term, announced last year that he would retire and teach full time at Schenectady County Community College. His last day is Feb. 27. The seat will be decided in the Nov. 4 general election.
This is the first time in at least six years that the county’s Democratic Party endorsed a minor party candidate for a major countywide office, said Quail.
“This would be the first time. We have done this in town and county seats with regularity,” he said.
Democrats control the offices of county clerk and district attorney and have an 11-4 majority on the Schenectady County Legislature, as well as control of city government.
Dagostino, 42, is the son of county Legislature Vice Chairwoman Judy Dagostino, a Democrat representing Rotterdam. Judy Dagostino’s four-year term on the Legislature expires this year. She is expected to seek re-election, according to party officials.
Dominic Dagostino has the support of the Schenectady County Conservative Committee, said Chairman Randy Pascarella. He is also seeking the support of the Schenectady County Republican Committee, said Chairman Tom Buchanan.
“We have four résumés from candidates we are considering, and we will make a decision within the next 30 days,” Buchanan said.
Republicans are considering Dagostino; Paul Brown of the Working Families Party, a sergeant with the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Department; Joe Lazzari, a retired Schenectady Police Department officer and a member of the Independence Party; and Michael Moffett, a Republican and an investigator with the state Department of Health.
Tom Constantine is no longer seeking the office of sheriff, party leaders said. Quail said Constantine withdrew his name from consideration “well before the meeting was called because he was seeking other opportunities.”
Quail praised Constantine as a “really good guy. His conduct in this whole thing was extremely honorable.”
Constantine was not available for comment.
Constantine, who is retired as a detective sergeant from the Niskayuna Police Department, emerged as a candidate for the position when Buffardi announced his retirement. He changed his party affiliation in late December to Democrat from Republican to improve his chances of obtaining the seat.
However, Constantine was pushed to the wings several weeks later when Dagostino announced that he would seek the sheriff’s seat.
Quail said Democrats courted several people, including Constantine, for the seat.
“Contrary to reports that deals were promised and deals were made, that never happened,” Quail said. “There was wide speculation that the fix was in, and people assumed the process was done even before it began.”
Quail said the party’s executive committee supports Dagostino because his “values are very much in keeping with core Democratic values. Fundamentally, you want someone who embraces the concepts of fairness and fundamental justice, who interacts with people in a manner that reflects respect for their rights and reflects that you are part of community and not above it.”
Quail said the committee picked a Conservative over a Democrat because the majority of candidates for sheriff are in law enforcement and “a vast majority of them are enrolled in the Conservative Party. If we did not consider them, it would have drained the pool of candidates.”
The Rotterdam Democratic Committee recently endorsed Dagostino for sheriff, Quail said.
