Democratic ‘leadership’ in New York is worse than a joke, it’s a farce
In her Nov. 21 letter, “Tedisco a joke leading Assembly minority,” Niskayuna Democratic Chairwoman Ellen Malkis talked about leadership. Let’s talk! Her Niskayuna neighbor, county Legislature Chairwoman Susan Savage, has increased county taxes by 30 percent since 2003, this year by almost 9 percent. That makes Schenectady taxes some of the highest in the nation. As Malkis fiddles, Niskayuna taxes skyrocketed over 56 percent since 2000. All this as Democratic Speaker Silver refuses to support capping property taxes or even bringing the bill to the Assembly for a vote. Did I mention that Silver takes frequent flyer miles for state travel at taxpayers expense? I guess Malkis calls that leadership, the Democratic way. Last year, Assembly Minority Leader Tedisco gave Silver a thumping with the election of Republican George Amedore. This year, the speaker spent $3 million against the Assembly GOP in an atmosphere defined as “toxic” for Republicans, and Amedore trounced Silver’s handpicked candidate by 25 points. Also, while spending $800,000 to try to duplicate what Tedisco did in the Amedore seat, Silver got thumped again by Tedisco and Republicanelect Tony Jordan in the 112th Assembly District. I note that the Democratic governor recently illustrated that party’s leadership, better said lack of, is closely aligned to the adage, “do as I say, not as I do,” when he purchased a $21,000 rug for the mansion while telling families to tighten up their belts. There is no way you can sweep their party’s failed leadership under that rug. R. J. CAMPCHERO Niskayuna The writer is town GOP committee.treasurer.
