Glen Sanders Mansion to close during upgrade $1 million overhaul to coincide with 20th year By STEVE BARNES, Senior writer First published in print: Sunday, November 30, 2008
SCOTIA — Glen Sanders Mansion will undergo a $1 million refurbishment in time for its 20th anniversary in March. The historic property, located on the north bank of the Mohawk River at the end of the Western Gateway Bridge, has been upgraded and expanded over the past two decades, but the upcoming project is the most comprehensive overhaul since the nearly 300-year-old former family home was converted to a restaurant, inn and banquet facility, owner Angelo Mazzone said. Mazzone opened Glen Sanders Mansion on March 20, 1989.
"Everything will be new," Mazzone said, describing a floor-to-ceiling renovation that will encompass the ballroom, banquet and dining rooms, hotel rooms, lobby, lighting, rugs and trim. Outside, the patio will be enlarged, retiled and outfitted with cooking and beverage stations.
The Glen Sanders Mansion's 135-seat restaurant will also be given a new look and a name of its own, as yet undecided. Mazzone said a marketing survey he commissioned found that 60 percent of respondents were unaware the mansion had a restaurant, assuming it to be only a banquet operation and inn. Giving the restaurant a fresh name, menu and identity will help distinguish it from the mansion's catering operation, which has on-site capacity for parties as large as 700, Mazzone said.
Glen Sanders Mansion will be closed for three weeks starting Feb. 15, with a reopening party scheduled for March 6, Mazzone said...........................http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=744970&category=SCHENECTADY
