I thought everyone was pinching pennies and tightening their belts to overcome this "financial crisis" every day Americans are facing (as is the rest of the world).

Why are we still spending tax dollars on stupid crap like rugs for the governors mansion, etc.

Here's another example: http://dailygazette.com/news/2008/nov/24/1124_rpi/

Who cares? Is it really going to change our lives right now? Is it something that is absolutely necessary for tax dollars to be doing at this time - rather than say in 1-2-5-10 years when things are significantly better?

you will find most of the waist in Rotterdam and Dueaneburg since there the repubs have rulled the roost for years and spent the money all up on the taxpayers. they wont do the service for the people and at the polls a chage will be coming for them to

His words are a revelation even to him.  He doesn't even know the difference between Duanesburg and Princetown or Duanesburg and Delanson yet thinks he knows about town finances.  There is a word (or two) for people like him......just can't say it here.
Yes, Sal....I am a Republican and I am proud to be a Republican.  I am not always proud of my fellow Republicans but I am always proud to carry the conservative Republican idealogy.  I am proud of not having a tax you to freaking death attitude, I am proud to not produce new laws every single month to interfere in the every day lives of people.  I am a Republican and I am proud.

Sorry to get off topic MT.  You are right, it would seem there are better ways to spend those funds right now.  I'm more concerned about next week and the next few years.

Oh great MT...RPI didn't have to build this elaborate space to find organism in other parts of the universe. They can find all of the strange organisms they want in politics. Let's work at making some of these ridiculous politicians extinct.

New York taxes high enough already, don’t make them higher

As a lifelong New York state resident, I am saddened to see so many people fleeing the state as a result of outrageous taxes and the ridiculous cost of living.
I don't have enough information about our budget process, or allocations to provide an answer, but I do know that shifting tax burdens from the state back to local municipalities — which translates to the property owners — is obviously not the answer.
Bringing business in to New York is a wonderful idea, but if you can't keep the employees because none of them can afford to live here, and if you have vacant buildings because no one wants to buy here, what is the point?
Buffalo is a dead city — millions of dollars (taxpayer dollars) have been spent there trying to revitalize it. Albany is a city run by politics and politicians — millions are spent here. Who do you think has paid for all of this? Me — Joe the taxpayer. Guess what? I, too, will be one of the people fleeing if this keeps up.
I do not mind paying taxes for a certain standard of living and certain amenities. I do, however, mind paying higher and higher taxes when I can't afford to heat my house, put gas in my car.
Tell me: If increasing taxes wasn't an option, what would you do?
