The illegal alien aunt of President Obama could learn this week whether she can put down roots in Boston - or start packing her bags for a one-way trip back to Kenya.

And, save for U.S. Immigration Court Judge Leonard I. Shapiro, she’ll know before anyone else. Zeituni Polly Onyango has persuaded Shapiro to bar the public from her removal proceeding Thursday morning at the John F. Kennedy Federal Building, though it’s unclear why.

“I assume (Shapiro) thought it would be a three-ring circus. She’s the aunt of the president of the United States - the most famous man in the world,” said Mike Rogers, spokesman for the Ohio law firm defending Onyango, 57, against the Department of Homeland Security.

I don't care who she is or who she's related to she is here illegally and has been for a long time, just send her home there's no need for a hearing.

Shadow, the operative words are "long time".  Why send her home now?  He can support her and get her off the public entitlements.  Let's not be so harsh with her.

Can - but hasn't ... and certainly he knew she was here a long time before she was "outed".

Why didn't Aunt Zeituni apply for citizenship thru the proper channels instead of hiding when her visa was up. We have laws for a reason and when they're not followed you end up with a nation full of illegals that we don't know who they are, what they're doing here or where they are.

A U.S. immigration court has granted asylum to President Barack Obama's African aunt, the Associated Press reports.

Zeituni Onyango is the half-sister of Obama's late father. The decision, which was mailed Friday, follows a closed hearing in Boston three months ago.

The basis for the request has not been made public, but the AP quotes her lawyer and saying her initial request for asylum was "due to violence in Kenya."

Onyango moved to the United States in 2000. Her first asylum request was rejected, and she was ordered deported in 2004, but she continued to live in Boston.

A judge agreed to reconsider her case after her status became public in 2008 a few days before the November election.

Well doesn't this just speak volumes?

And we wonder why this country has an immigration problem.

White House officials said during the appeals that Obama  was staying out of the matter.

"The president believes that the case should run its ordinary course," an official said.

Onyango, who is the half-sister of the president's late father, applied for political asylum in 2002 due to violence in her native Kenya. She was a legal resident of the United States at the time and had received a Social Security card a year earlier.

Onyango's asylum request was turned down in 2004. She appealed the rejection of her request twice but was denied each time and ordered to leave the country.

How did she get a SS card if she was ordered to leave the country??

She received the SS card in 2001 when she was here legally.

And generally you aren't kicked out, as she wasn't, so appeals can be made.
