SCHENECTADY — The route of the annual Gazette Holiday Parade on Nov. 22 will change this year, running straight down State Street from Lafayette Street to Schenectady County Community College.
Thirty-five Price Chopper volunteers also will walk a giant balloon of Curious George in the parade, which will take place from 5-7 p.m. the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
"Price Chopper is thrilled to reprise the excitement from several years ago when we brought Alvin the Chipmunk in to float high above the annual Holiday Parade crowd," said Mona Golub, Price Chopper's vice president of public relations and consumer services in a statement.
The theme of the 2008 parade is "Fairy Tales and Bedtime Stories." All floats and marchers are expected to incorporate the theme into their decorations and costumes. There will be an appearance by Mother Goose and pre-parade entertainment will be provided by the Electric City Clown Alley and other special guests.
There is still time to submit an application to be in the parade. Contact Nell Burrows at the Schenectady Chamber at 372-5656 or nburrows@schenectadychamber.org for an invitation, application and regulations.
The day of the parade State Street will be closed from 4 p.m. until the parade is over at approximately 7 p.m. Westbound lanes on the Western Gateway Bridge to Scotia also will be closed. Traffic will be allowed eastbound from Scotia to Schenectady.

I'm guessing then that the Schenectady Metroplex will have a float in the parade with Mr. Gillen riding aboard.

When the INSANE are running the ASYLUM In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule. -- Friedrich Nietzsche

No it should be Mayor Stratton, of course! He is the one behind the way Schenectady has made it's comeback. Mayor Stratton should have all of the glory, cause he deserves it. Mayor Stratton stands behind all needed new development. Mayor Stratton especially stands behind his SPD. He created this beautiful strip of State Street where our beloved Parade will be displayed. So it is clearly Mayor Stratton who has led Schenectady County to victory over poverty and crime and unemployment. The Italians have done nothing. Wouldn't ya say?

Ya, but a one block long parade would be boring, dontcha think?
Quoted from salvatore: no you people are even against the parade to celebrate the christ child. How evil can the repubs be? Maddone
Sal,
If you were informed, you would know that the event is being advertised and presented as a Holiday Parade, not a Christmas Parade.
Our government officials have taken Christ out of Christmas. And, it should be noted that leftists are responsible for eliminating religion from our schools and attempting to remove references to God from our currency and our nations Pledge of Alliance.
We Christians still celebrate the birth of baby Jesus, despite the liberals best efforts to destroy religion in America.
