Bicentennial Park will be built.   It would be a very simple thing to include a permanent home for the
Onrust into the plan.    The ball is already moving to get this project done.    There will be more news to
come on the project in the spring.

The dog park proposal is moving right along as well.

Next ball to get moving -- a new municipal-community center for the town --- to replace the current town hall,
the police station-justice court, high way department building  and the senior citizens center.

The DEM spend and tax plans will soon be ending in November. Even Glenville has the right idea and won't go along with taxing residents for Proctors media scam. These parks, docks and other taxpayer funded projects are slowly being phased out. Taxpayers are poor, they don't need parks, they need to keep their homes.

Rotterdam residents were surveyed - by the same group that did the ambulance district survey - and almost
3/4 want a new general-use town park.    The town owns a large portion of the land and has access to the
rest of the lands -- thus there will be no cost to acquire the property.   All of the improvements on the town-owned  "Bonded Concrete site" will be done at NO COST To the taxpayers  and the value of that work can be usedto apply towards the town's match for federal and state grants --- that means we could be eligible for $10 million to $20 million in federal and state grants to complete construction of Bicentennial Park.   Since, it will probably not cost  $10 million to $20 million to complete Bicentennial Park -- those extra funds could be used to improve the other existing parks and/or build a multi-generational community center.   And, we haven't even begun talking about  private grants and possible corporate donations.

Taxpayers want and need good parks -- they have told us that -- they want and need a town community center.  My goal is to build Bicentennial Park and a new community center without costing the town taxpayers
a dime on their property tax bill.

DV, where do you think state and federal grants are funded? From the taxpayers. There is nothing 'free' about it and your argument that "someone else will use it" isn't quite on point. A community center, parks, docks all cost money for upkeep each year. That will take money from taxpayers. It's an ongoing tax burden.

I would hope that municipalities which are using these grants are doing something which will BENEFIT the taxpayer. Getting a museum which charges admission to offset the cost of upkeep, charging admission to a park for tourist (helping the taxpayers expenses), bringing concerts and having fundraisers to support the park maintenance, just to name a few.

Schenectady County is sucking up these federal/state grants and Metroplex funds, when the reality is a long term burden upon the taxpayers to continually fund these baseless projects.

when REMS takes over ALS
the parimedics will be terminated and work for REMS
and REMS will donate all ALS fees to Parks and Rec

or

all police duties will be transfered to NYS Police along with the jobs
the chief will take over Parks and Rec at $150k/yr
and Parks and Rec will have a $5mil budget
to deal with all the little league requests
and support the concrete business in town

tippy is gonna get a new pair of shoes after that comment

that would make for an AWESOME novel.....

The state is in an even deeper 'pothole'....they have been collecting EXTRA sales tax unbeknownst to them and purportedly balancing a budget on it...

Um, that would make sense if we were talking about land for the Onrust, but we're not -it's a dock. The City would have to put over $100,000 taxpayer (oh, that's City taxpayer dollars) for a dock. No park improvements mentioned. Therefore, wherever this grant goes to, it's not for land, it's taxpayer cash supporting a dock with little to no significant economic value to anyone.

a dock for a river that freezes  how about a boathouse with a lift - then the boat is open to the public all year

stored in the winter floats in the summer

do it right or dont do it

Where ever the dock is built, if it is built on the river it had better be well engineered there have been a few bridges in the past history that were taken out by floods and ice jams.

It would have to be ALOT better than a 'camp dock'.....and we can afford what in this state/county?

SCHENECTADY
Dock grant should be safe; new sites eyed

BY KATHLEEN MOORE Gazette Reporter

Schenectady hasn’t lost its grant for a dock after all, Zoning Offi cer Steven Strichman told a relieved City Council Tuesday.
Strichman had told the state that the city was no longer interested in the grant, based on a misunderstanding that the full-size replica of the historic ship Onrust had agreed to dock in Scotia. The ship is actually going to dock there only for special events.
Council members said he should have talked with them first, and he apologized at Tuesday’s committees meeting.
“Yes, I should have come to the council fi rst. I apologize,” he said.
He also e-mailed the state to say the city still wants the grant, and he told the council he thinks the grant is safe.
But first he argued against the dock, saying that the proposed location in Riverside Park was too controversial.
“It seemed we were losing more support as time went on,” he said.
Residents in the historic Stockade neighborhood, who use the park, have been split on whether the city should build a dock there.
Strichman also said he is now no longer certain that the state Canal Corp. will allow a dock there — although the corporation itself selected the site.
And he dismissed other possible locations for the Onrust, saying that Onrust manager Don Rittner wanted a highly visible site to stave off vandalism.
But council members told him to press on. In a lengthy threeway discussion between the council, Strichman and Rittner, they agreed that the dock could be built at the county’s Gateway Park, on the river near the Glen Sanders Mansion or outside the Waters Edge Lighthouse Restaurant, where the dock would replace a private dock that isn’t strong enough for the Onrust. ....................>>>>.....................>>>>..................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01100&AppName=1

The Water's Edge is the only site that makes any sense. There is no parking and no business to accommodate potential tourists in the City. Unbelievable how the DEM implosion crew refuses to listen to Stockade residents and now wants to put it on Washington Avenue-with no parking. How about actually working together with Scotia?

How much more time will they waste on this and the failed non profit shakedown? Get down to brass tacks and start cutting programs. Stop looking for new ways to waste precious taxpayer funds.

Actually, the survey was 100% accurate in predicting the results of the referendum.

Uh, where does the money come from???????

DV, the fed debt is $14 TRILLLION, up from only a meager $500 billion just two years ago.  Where is the fed supposed to come up with the money?????
The guv says the state needs to CUT $10 BILLION

So, tell us, dV, where is the government getting the money from???????    It's nice that you can say all this stuff can be spent with taxpayers money - our money for going to our jobs every day, having taxes taken out instead of being able to use our own money - its easy for you to say since you don't have a job and pay taxes.  And it's easy to say when you don't own a house and pay taxes.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
